Job Title: Ditch Rider
Report To: Water Master
FLSA Status: Nonexempt

Summary
Selah-Moxee Irrigation District is accepting applications for a full-time 40 hrs/week Ditch Rider position. The ideal candidate must have excellent written & oral communication skills and be very detail oriented with emphasis on accuracy. Position requires the ability to work primarily outdoors without immediate supervision & have the ability to perform different tasks in a timely manner. Minimum High School diploma and valid WA driver’s license with a clean driving record required (CDL preferred). Hourly $22-$25 DOQ/DOE plus benefits. Essential Duties And Responsibilities
During the irrigation season, the Ditch Rider shall be responsible for the daily regulation and control of the assigned waterways to insure appropriate deliver to water users. Essential functions include: record keeping, adjusting water deliveries for accurate flows to water users, maintaining appropriate water surface elevations in canals, laterals, and irrigation boxes, removing debris from weed racks to maintain the integrity of the conveyance system, service filters and screens, apply pesticides for weed control (aquatic and terrestrial) as required, mowing and maintenance right-of-ways and easements, proper operation and maintenance of District equipment, performing additional patrols of waterways when conditions warrant such as wind and thunder storms, power outages, and employee shortages. Also includes interfacing with water users and other District personnel. The Ditch Rider is required to be “on-call” and answer any water calls after regular working hours during both nights and weekends.
During the non-irrigation season, the Ditch Rider shall be required to maintain and upgrade the condition of the water conveyance system and right-of-ways and District equipment. This may include: Concrete work, installation of pipes, flow meters, water measurement devices, and head gates, canal excavation, transport heavy equipment (CDL), operation of heavy equipment, general shop work, welding, and manual labor.
