Senior Data Architect - DBA Team

The DBA team is part of the Database Services division within a leading hedge fund technology services firm, providing 24/7 support for all application database systems both on-premises and in the cloud. We are a growing team of 10 experienced DBAs located across 3 global offices. Our team works closely with Systems Administration, Monitoring, and Development teams to troubleshoot production issues, automate routine tasks, collect performance data for analysis, and plan and communicate the rollout of new software versions.

Job Description
We are looking for a Senior Data Architect with a deep understanding of data modeling best practices for both Data Warehousing and OLTP systems, as well as experience with AWS cloud environments, Snowflake, and MongoDB. Experience with infrastructure as code and orchestration tools such as Terraform and Ansible is also essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide support for all aspects of data services in a hybrid environment, including AWS pipelines for SQL Server HA Always On clusters using Terraform and Ansible, in collaboration with support, IT engineering, and development teams.
• Develop and support new and existing Data Warehouse and OLTP designs with development teams. Knowledge of the ERWIN data modeling tool is required.
• Optimize the performance and tuning of SQL queries.
• Support Snowflake and MongoDB cloud environments.
• Develop tools to automate system and schema changes or data transformations across development, QA, UAT, staging, and production environments.

Job Requirements

Education:

• Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science
• SQL Server or Cloud certification is advantageous

Experience:

• 10 years of experience in a similar role
• Expertise in data modeling best practices for both Data Warehousing and OLTP systems
• Proficient in using the ERWIN data modeling tool for both logical and physical data models
• Expertise in ETL data transformation
• Proficient in managing Microsoft SQL Server Always-On and standalone installations (versions 2012-2019)
• Skilled in troubleshooting and tuning SQL environments and queries
• Experience with proactive monitoring of SQL Servers, including blocking, deadlocks, multithreading, and long-running queries
• Proficient with Snowflake Data Warehouse setup and administration
• Experience with NoSQL DBMS, particularly MongoDB
• Hands-on experience with Terraform, Ansible, and Packer in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as SQL and PowerShell
• Understanding of connections from Kubernetes EKS clusters is a plus
