What are the responsibilities and job description for the ICWA Coordinator position at Seldovia Village Tribe IRA?
Location: Homer or Seldovia
Schedule: 40 hours per month (flexible over core office times, but must meet the need of scheduled court hearings.)
Position Overview
The ICWA Worker administers the ICWA Program for Seldovia Village Tribe. The ICWA Worker advocates for at-risk Alaska Native/American Indian children who face removal from their families in all ICWA cases pertaining to Tribal children in state custody anywhere in the United States.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Implements Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) Program on behalf of SVT. Ensure that ICWA is carried out in a manner consistent with compliance requirements and SVT Policy
- Act as an advocate for families at risk of child abuse/neglect
- Respond to ICWA notices received in a timely manner and develop case plans with the State social worker with the primary plan to reunify the child or place child in a relative placement where appropriate
- Prepares court documents and attend court hearings and case reviews established by the State Office of Children’s Services
- Develop positive working relationship with Office of Children’s Services, court system, and other social service agencies to ensure professional services for families and children
- Communicate with other providers and state and federal agencies when necessary
- Submit written reports to Tribal Council as needed
- Stores case contact notes and client files in a locked cabinet to protect client privacy
- Actively participate in organizational wide meetings, events, activities, and programming.
- Attend trainings, workshops, and meetings relevant to role.
- Other duties as assigned.
Specifications
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, ICWA related laws and regulations.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before small groups of people and in court settings.
- Must be 18 years of age
- Must complete all required trainings for position
- Demonstrate maturity, dependability, judgment, and empathy
Job Requirements
Experience: 2 years experience in child advocacy, social work, or related field strongly preferred.
Education: High School Diploma or GED
Certifications/Licensure: None Required / Heartsaver CPR, First Aid, AED preferred and will be provided by SVT
Computer/Equipment Requirements:
Must have proficient knowledge of a computer (Mac) with basic proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel. Must be experienced with Zoom, teleconferencing, and other remote tools to carry out daily functions.
Screening Requirements:
FBI Fingerprinting, Drug Screening, and thorough background check
Work Environment
Seldovia Village Tribe is a drug-free, alcohol-free, and tobacco-free work environment. An individual in this position will work in a typical office setting. Work will require long periods of time on phone calls, using a computer, or reading through documents.
