Self-Help is seeking a Special Projects Manager to join our Climate Capital team in Durham!

The Special Projects Manager will provide critical, high-level level project leadership for strategic initiatives related to Self-Help's implementation of the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund. The Special Projects Manager will generally be assigned projects based on organizational need and their own areas of experience and expertise.

WHAT You'll DO

  • Coordinate and manage projects designed with senior leaders and critical to advancing organizational priorities.
  • Portfolio of projects will be based on evolving organizational needs and Special Projects Manager’s areas of expertise. Examples of potential initial projects include:
    • Track key workstream activities, coordinating with workgroup leaders on navigating and executing on deliverables.
    • Build and maintain familiarity with GGRF rules and regulations, including EPA terms & conditions.
    • Collaborate with Climate Capital management to update budgets, review budget to actual reports, and conduct financial analyses.
  • Other project types and responsibilities may include:
    • Provide research and analytical support on major financial and operational decisions.
    • Work with senior executives to organize and mobilize organizational resources around new initiatives or key operational priorities.
    • Support the organization’s relationships with key partners, funders, and collaborators, for example, joining a collaborative table of mission-aligned partners to advance specific work or agendas.
    • Facilitate and organize meetings of senior managers within the assigned portfolio.
WHAT You’ll NEED

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2-5 years related professional experience in finance, banking, community development, affordable housing, management consulting, business management, or related social justice work. Master’s degree in urban planning, public policy, business administration, law, or equivalent related experience. 
  • Executive level project management skills. This includes being a highly resourceful self-starter and fast learner with an ability to juggle multiple complex projects at one time; working independently to meet goals, objectives, and deadlines. 
  • Strong financial analysis and analytical skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including strong listening skills and a demonstrated ability to work effectively in varied professional, socio-economic, and cultural contexts. 
  • Strong commitment to our mission – creating economic opportunity for historically underserved communities, and a desire to work in a racially and socially diverse organization.
  • Preference for working in an organization that emphasizes teamwork and collaboration. 
  • Strong Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills required; data analysis and GIS skills preferred. 
  • Willingness to work hours reflective of an executive-level position and travel approximately 10%, although may be higher at times due to the nature of assigned projects.
