Job description – Direct Support Professional (DSP)

Do you have a passion for helping others? Join our team as a community day services direct support professional (DSP)! Here you are able to assist adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities engage in programming and participate in community activities.

Responsibilities and Duties

A Direct Support Professional (DSP) assists clients served to lead a self-directed life and contribute to the community, assists with activities of daily living if needed, and encourages attitudes and behaviors that enhance community inclusion.

• Provide guidance on a range of developmental goals
• Provide personalized coaching and assistance with daily life skills depending on each person's needs.
• Help individuals served reach their personal goals and enjoy each day.
• Coordinate visits in the community and other fun activities throughout the year.
• Encourage individuals to enjoy leisure activities including; art, plants/ gardening, dance, card games, exercise, board games, book club, puzzles and so much more.
• Dedicated hands-on support staff.
• Experience working directly with individuals with developmental disabilities.
• Open to working with participants of all levels of functioning.
• Ability to drive individuals to and from the agency.

Qualifications/Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent (GED)
• Criminal background clearance
• Direct Support Professional (DSP) trained (preferred)
• First Aid/CPR trained (provided through agency)
• Food Handlers Certificate (provided through agency)
• Experience working with persons with developmental disabilities (2 years preferred)
• Able to perform moderate physical tasks
• Dependable transportation
• Valid driver’s license

Pay: $16.00 - $16.50 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
