Position Summary
The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for various human resources activities, including, but not limited to recruitment, employee relations, compliance and benefits administration. Helps to achieve a balance between compliance and the employee experience while maintaining our mission and values.
Responsibilities
- Manage recruiting process from supervisor’s initial request to final stage of extending an offer of employment to selected candidate.
- Provide guidance to the department hiring supervisor when proposing staffing needs.
- May interview candidates along with the hiring manager, as needed.
- Communicate and develop partnerships with staffing agencies in the recruiting of temporary personnel.
- Plan and conduct new hire orientations, remote or onsite.
- Train new hires and supervisors with navigating within the HR/Payroll system.
- Administer employee benefits programs. Inform employees about the nature of benefits plans, resolve employee issues with benefit administrators and insurance providers.
- Consult with employees about benefit eligibility and other pertinent issues.

Engage in the Annual Open Enrollment process.
- Assist with benefit plan and cost setup in Paycom.
- Gather data for insurance renewals.
- Provide direction to supervisors and employees in the process flow of initiating workers’ compensation claims, seeking medical care, and follow-ups.
- Prepare documentation and reporting of injuries, communicate with supervisors, physician’s offices, brokers and insurance adjusters.
- Assist supervisors and monastics on completing SRF forms and documentation.
- Coordinate employees, supervisors, and monastics with various work-related trainings on our Learning Management System.
- Advise employees on their type of leave of absence and required documentation for them to submit for approval.
- Advise employees regarding their benefits during their leaves and continuation of benefit contribution payments.
- Continued follow-up on employee’s documentation during leave or extension of leave. Inform supervisor of leave updates.
- Monitor and reply to HR Department and Resumes email inboxes, as needed, on a daily basis.
- Process outside requests for employee information and verification with strict confidentiality including but not limited to - court mandated child support requests and requests for verification of employment.
- Assist HR Manager with SharePoint site and make recommendations for efficient use of this platform for our employees.
- Work closely with HR Manager with projects and assignments, as needed.
- Serve as an additional point of contact for employee relation matters.
- Provide coaching and guidance on conflict resolution and corrective actions.
- Conduct internal workplace investigations, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with applicable laws.
- Manage, add, update and maintain accurate records on Paycom.
- Prepare requisition memos and spreadsheets for submission to HR Management.
- Assist in the development and revision of job descriptions, as needed.
- Maintain employee personnel files and documentation in compliance with organization policies and governmental regulations, and administrate details associated with appropriate record retention.
- Perform project work including research on relevant topics, processing forms and associated documentation as assigned by the HR Manager.
- Occasional travel to training courses and between our different locations.
- Honor and maintain a strict level of confidentiality.
- Follow SRF’s policies and established procedures.
- Other position-related tasks, as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in HR Management or related discipline; or a combination of education and experience that meets the needs of the position. PHR or SHRM certification a plus.
- 3-5 years of dedicated and progressive HR experience.
- Strong understanding of HR functions, with a focus on recruitment, benefits and employee relations.
- A minimum of 1 year experience resolving complex employee relations issues in HR and/or relatable capacity is required.
- The ability to resolve employee and management issues.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel and Teams.
- Familiarity with HR systems; Paycom software a plus.
- Knowledge of Federal and California state labor laws related to employment and labor regulations and compliance.
- Workers’ compensation regulations and claims processing.
- Excellent proofreading skills.
- Ability to think critically and work autonomously.
- Accuracy and attention to detail with follow-up skills.
- Excellent project management and adherence to deadlines with the ability to see projects through from beginning to end.
- Organizational skills and the ability to handle numerous projects at the same time.
- Customer service oriented and professional demeanor.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrates understanding and care when working with employees.
- Possess/maintain a valid State driver's license.
- Ability to sit for extended periods.
Additional Details
This is a full-time, hourly non-exempt position; Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. PST.
The position is hybrid with onsite work required on occasion in Los Angeles County. Onsite work in San Diego County may also be required on rare occasion. We have an office available in Los Angeles, if you are interested in working onsite.
