Position Summary: The Accounting Manager will report directly to the Controller and will oversee the accounting functions for our property management portfolio. This role is responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting operations, including financial reporting, budgeting, and cash flow management. The Accounting Manager will ensure accurate and timely financial records, manage accounting staff, and collaborate closely with property managers and other departments to support the company's goals and ensure compliance with accounting standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounting Operations:
- Oversee the daily accounting functions for the property management portfolio, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and bank reconciliations.
- Ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports for multiple properties.
- Manage and maintain property-specific accounting records, ensuring accuracy and compliance with internal and external requirements.
- Prepare and review monthly and quarterly financial reports for property owners, senior management, and other stakeholders.
- Work with Operations Team to manage and report on budgets, tracking variances and providing detailed explanations for discrepancies.
- Ensure proper allocation of income and expenses across properties, and coordinate the preparation of year-end financial statements and tax filings.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Assist with the development of annual property budgets, collaborating with senior management to ensure accurate estimates of income, expenses, and capital expenditures.
- Monitor budget performance throughout the year, analyzing variances and making recommendations for adjustments as needed.
- Provide financial forecasting for the properties to ensure that management and owners are informed about expected financial outcomes.
Team Management:
- Supervise and mentor a small team of accounting staff, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure efficient operations and accurate financial reporting.
- Delegate and review daily tasks to ensure timely and accurate completion of accounting functions.
- Foster a collaborative environment and encourage professional growth and development within the accounting team.
Internal Controls and Compliance:
- Implement and enforce internal controls to ensure accuracy and compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with external auditors during audits, ensuring that all financial data is accurately presented and compliant with applicable standards.
- Assist with property-specific tax filings, ensuring timely compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Property Management Collaboration:
- Provide financial support and insight into property performance, helping Operations Team make informed decisions regarding property operations and capital improvements.
- Resolve any accounting-related issues with tenants or vendors and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders.
Process Improvement and Reporting:
- Identify and collaborate with controller to implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of accounting procedures and financial reporting.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of automated accounting systems and tools to streamline operations.
- Prepare ad-hoc financial reports and analyses for management and owners as needed, providing actionable insights on property performance and financial health.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred, but not required with comparable progressive experience in accounting, including 1-2 years in a managerial role.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and property management accounting.
- Proficient in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks or similar) and Excel.
- Knowledge of tax laws, local regulations, and industry standards applicable to property management.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy and the ability to provide actionable insights.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, and present financial data to non-financial stakeholders.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of accounting processes.

Pay: $56,000.00 per year
