As a Human Resources Summer Student, you will play a key role in HR records management, supporting the team in digitizing and organizing employee files following SEMCO’s records retention policies. This role provides practical experience in HR operations, compliance, and confidentiality management while developing essential administrative and organizational skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in digitizing employee records and categorizing them per SEMCO’s records management framework.
- Apply SEMCO’s records retention schedule to determine appropriate storage or secure disposal of documents.
- Identify and confidentially destroy records that have exceeded their retention period.
- Maintain accurate documentation of records reviewed, retained, or destroyed.
- Support HR administrative tasks as needed, including data entry and document handling.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Currently enrolled as a part-time or full-time college student; preference for those studying Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Between the ages of 18 and 25 years old.
- Ability to work from May through early/mid-August 2025, onsite in our Port Huron, Michigan office.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and digital file management systems (e.g., SharePoint).
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and a willingness to learn.

The hourly pay rate for Summer 2025 is $15 per hour, and $17 per hour for returning students.
