What are the responsibilities and job description for the Visitor Services Assistant position at Seminary Ridge Museum and Education Center?
JOB TITLE: Visitor Services Assistant (Seasonal, mid-February to early December 2025, $12 per hour)
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Assist in the daily operations of the Admissions Desk with a focus on customer service
· Assist in the daily operations of the Museum Shop
· Lead guided tours of Cupola and conduct other public historical programming
· Serve as Point Person on an as-needed basis
· Operate Escape Room on select evenings
· Assist with light cleaning duties
· Assist with clerical duties, especially answering phones
DETAILS:
· Approximately 15-25 hours per week
· Shifts typically 7.5 paid hours plus 30-minute unpaid lunch
· Most shifts start as early as 8:30am-9:30am and end as late as 4:30pm-7:30pm
· Flexible scheduling availability required to help the museum meet its customer needs
· Weekend, evening, and holiday hours required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
· Ability to operate and balance Point of Sale (POS) cash register and ticketing system
· Excellent interpersonal skills; enjoys working with people of all ages and backgrounds
· Strong verbal and presentation skills
· Education and/or experience in history field appreciated
· Competence in exhibiting professionalism in a public setting
· Ambition to play active role at Gettysburg’s Premier Museum
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Must be able to lift at least 40 pounds
· Must be able to walk up stairs throughout five-story building
· Must be able to lead outdoor walking tours of up to one-half mile
