KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

· Ability to operate and balance cash drawers using a Point of Sale (POS) ticketing system

· Flexible work schedule; able to work weekdays, weekends, and possibly evenings required

· Strong verbal and presentation skills; able to communicate clearly and effectively in person and on the phone

· Excellent interpersonal skills; friendly, outgoing, and polite and enjoys dealing with people of all ages and backgrounds

· Ability to learn and retain historical information

· Awareness of accessibility and health and safety issues

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES, TASKS AND PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:

1. Assist in the daily operations of the admissions desk with a focus on customer service.

· Welcome individual visitors and groups and provide orientation to museum

· Respond to inquiries and provide information about all aspects of museum and other Gettysburg destinations

· Perform accurate sales transactions and opening and closing functions using POS register system; sell or check in admission tickets at the admission desk using POS reservation and ticketing system; sell memberships

· Receive and count cash, check, and credit card payments

· Handle incoming calls and inquiries

2. Assist in the daily operations of the museum shop

· Perform accurate sales transactions and opening and closing functions using POS register system

· Respond to inquiries and provide information about all aspects of the museum and other Gettysburg destinations

· Assist with merchandising, restocking, and cleaning in shop and storage areas

· Assist with inventory

3. Lead guided tours of cupola or conduct other public programming

· Engage visitors in historical content and create a memorable visitor experience

· Ensure safety of visitors and security of museum exhibits and displays in galleries

· Conduct scheduled tours of cupola

· Conduct other scheduled public programs

· Learn content of museum’s permanent and temporary exhibits and assist as needed with scheduled tour groups

· Participate in ongoing training and study to enhance customer service and programming efforts

· Provide support during special events

· Conduct visitor evaluations

4. Serve as primary Point Person

· Oversee and/or perform opening and closing functions using POS register system

· Open and close the building; take note of any malfunctioning building systems (A/V, lighting, HVAC, bathrooms, etc.) and report issues through the proper channels

· Resolve customer service issues, relaying through the proper channels when applicable

5. Perform cleaning duties (dusting, vacuuming, sweeping, polishing, etc.)

6. Assist with light clerical duties (data entry, filing, etc.)

7. Other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

· Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds

CLIENTELE: All visitors to the museum, including individuals, schools, and group tours

RELATIONSHIPS: This position works closely with the Director of Museum Operations, Marketing staff, and the rest of the Visitor Services team. Interacts with museum volunteers on a regular basis.

PROBLEM-SOLVING AND FREEDOM TO ACT: This position follows museum admissions and operating policies and adheres to established safety requirements. Provides information and historical content that has been reviewed and approved by the Director of Education and Museum Operations. As front-line staff, the position is challenged to take initiative as a visitor advocate to make suggestions and provide feedback for ways to improve the visitor experience.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $28,000.00 - $32,000.00 per year
