Operates equipment related to construction and maintenance of roadways. Transports self, crews and materials to work sites. Sets up and maintains a safe work zone. Performs general maintenance duties as assigned by supervisor. Keeps records and submits reports on work performed. Communicates with internal and external customers. Provides supervision to subordinates.

Coordinates and schedules the setting up and maintenance of traffic work zone for the district teams. Conducts MOT’s (maintenance of traffic) designs.
Sets up and maintains traffic work zone in compliance with IMSA FDOT standards as laid out in the FDOT index 600 series. Runs traffic signals manually on an as needed basis. Coordinates assigned crew member (flagging) to their respective positions and executes their duties on job sites.
Operates equipment related to construction and maintenance of roadways.
Mixes and prepares concrete and other materials used in road construction and maintenance. Sets up and maintains safe work zone. Lays sod, spreads seed, hay, fertilizer or other materials in landscaping or roadside maintenance.
Assists with supervision of crews.
Performs general maintenance duties as assigned by supervisor.
Keeps records and submits reports on work performed and assures that work schedules are adhered to.
Additional Duties:
May be required to perform emergency and weekend duty.
Performs other duties as assigned or as may be necessary.
In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to perform alternate duties.
High School Diploma or GED and 3 years experience in the maintenance and construction of roadways and stormwater infrastructure. Supervisory experience preferred.
Preference will be given to applicants with experience/training in the operation of gradalls, front end loaders, bulldozers, track excavators, motor graders, and material sifters.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Commercial Drivers License Class “B” and have the ability to obtain a valid Florida Commercial Drivers License Class “A” within six months of employment.
Proficient in word processing and other applicable software.
Ability to communicate effectively with assigned personnel and perform physically demanding job duties, occasionally under adverse work conditions.
Ability to deal with the public in an effective and cooperative manner.
Technical Requirements
Must possess or obtain within 6 months of employment, certification in “Work Zone Safety” from IMSA, Confined Space Entry Training; OSHA requirements or other certifications as required by work assignment and as directed by the Division Manager.
Knowledge needed to operate more complex and technical computer applications, such as GIS or STAN.
