What are the responsibilities and job description for the Professional Engineer (Supervisory) position at Seminole County/Board of County Commissioners?
Supervisory and technical engineering work managing Public Works Engineering projects in the field of design, right-of-way acquisition, support, and construction engineering support. Oversees County consultants in the accomplishment of their tasks.
Organizes, directs, and supervises work activities in the area of project management, engineering design, and production for County Public Works Engineering projects.
Supervises project managers (both County employees and Consultants) that oversee Public Works Engineering projects.
Participates in selection of consultants, determines project costs for engineering projects, manages financial oversight of invoices and budget matters and approvals, tracks scheduled progress of design and construction activities, reports all aspects of project progress and issues to the Assistant County Engineer, and prepares solutions to issues for design and construction projects.
Attends public meetings during and after work hours as County representative.
Assists in the preparation of BCC agenda items and provides technical support for presentations at BCC meetings.
Coordinates with other County Departments and with State and other local agencies to provide engineering services or complete engineering projects as assigned.
Prepares and submits required reports on section activities or responds to requests for engineering data or technical opinions as required.
Prepares in-house preliminary project designs and cost estimates for feasibility and budgeting of various infrastructure project requests.
Prepares recommendations for budget and controls expenditures from the approved budget for assigned projects. Provides input to the development of the Division’s budget.
Performs in-house project design. Utilizes Bentley Open Roads software in the design and production of plans. Working knowledge of Roadway design. Has the ability and knowledge to create horizontal and vertical geometry for utilization in 3D modeling.
Reviews and comment on engineering design plans for various Capital Improvement projects.
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field with a minimum of ten (10) years of total experience in Engineering practice. Responsible supervisory engineering experience is preferred.
Must possess registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Florida or obtain licensure within six (6) months of the date of hiring and maintain registration throughout term of employment.
Must maintain a valid Florida drivers’ license.
Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of engineering.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with subordinates, supervisors, and the general public.
Experience with utility coordination and certification of projects.
Experience in permitting projects through the St. Johns River Water Management District, Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the United States Army Corp of Engineers.
Ability to identify project Right-of-Way needs and coordinate with Consultants and County personnel to obtain project Right-of-Way.
Salary : $88,150 - $114,595
