Responsible for work involving the supervision and instruction of crews performing maintenance and construction of roadway and stormwater infrastructure.**Salary will be determined depending on qualifications of candidates who exceed the minimum requirements as outlined within the job description. **Additional compensation based on licensure.

The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position.Supervises an assigned area that may include construction, drainage, grading, utility work or maintenance. Supervises, schedules and coordinates activities of work crews. Performs and directs work of preparing road surfaces, laying asphalt, patching, laying and preparing drainage pipes, construction and maintenance of curbs, sidewalks, fencing and mowing/maintenance of shoulders and right of ways. May operate heavy equipment to complete road construction and maintenance projects. Inspects work in progress, modifies or adjusts work methods as necessary, and instructs crews in all phases of roadway and stormwater maintenance and construction including job safety. May be required to perform emergency and weekend duty. Completes daily timesheets and other related paperwork. May initiate and recommend to the supervisor for final hiring, termination, performance evaluations, disciplinary and commendatory actions for assigned staff. Performs other duties as assigned or as may be necessary. Additional Duties: Performs other related work as required, and operate other equipment as assigned to complete road construction and maintenance projects. In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to perform alternate duties.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Considerable knowledge of the effective operation and maintenance of heavy equipment. Ability to maintain equipment in good physical condition sufficient to satisfactorily perform job duties, occasionally under adverse weather conditions. Knowledge of traffic and highway safety rules and regulations and effective precautionary measures necessary to avoid accidents and hazards involved in the use of heavy equipment. Ability to understand and carry out general instructions, read, write and complete work records. Ability to communicate effectively with the public. Ability to deal with the public in an effective and cooperative manner. One (1) year experience in the operation of moderately heavy construction and maintenance equipment or successful completion of an approved heavy construction equipment training program. Must possess or obtain within 6 months of employment, certification in "Work Zone Safety" from IMSA, Confined Space Entry Training; OSHA requirements or other certifications as required by work assignment and as directed by the Division Manager. Knowledge needed to operate more complex and technical computer applications, such as GIS or STAN.
