Description
Professional, analytical and technical work relating to the performance, integrity, security, stability, availability, repair and recovery of the County's computer aided dispatch system.
**Salary will be determined depending on qualifications of candidates who exceed the minimum requirements as outlined within the job description.

Essential Functions

Administers, maintains and evaluates CAD and related system software including database management and maintenance.
Troubleshoots and resolves system problems. Works proactively to identify potential issues and recommends/implements preventative solutions.
Performs tasks within multiple information technology disciplines, including: database administration, network administration, systems analysis, application programming, hardware repair & replacement, project management, and information security.
Coordinates the integration between computer aided dispatch platform and various application subsystems including, the MPDS software (Priority Dispatch preferred), mobile data, station alerting, geographic information, mapping, incident reporting, records management, patient care reporting, radio communications, 911, operational monitoring and performance analysis.
Identifies and analyzes system and user needs, as well as equipment requirements. Writes system and user documentation, including policies and procedures. Develops, coordinates and delivers user training, training materials and presentations on new systems and upgrades.
Maintains internal knowledge base related to system configuration, operating procedures, and database schema.
Serves as primary point of contact for tracking and resolution of reported issues as well as coordination of third party resources for root cause analysis.
Provides recommendations to management related to system administration, operation, acquisition and implementation, including system performance requirements and technical specifications.
Creates and interprets statistical reports as well as providing ad-hoc reports from various system-generated databases.
Maintains library of database dictionaries as well as previously developed scripts and programs.
Maintains inventory of spare components, modules and equipment, as well as performing repair and/or replacement or adjustment appropriate to warranty and maintenance agreements.
Maintains SIMS records, Run Cards, Unit configuration, etc.
Additional Duties:
This position has a requirement for 24-hour on-call availability
Performs other related work as required.
In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to perform alternate duties.
Minimum Qualifications
Associates Degree (computer science coursework preferred) and three (3) years' experience required in the use and administration of CAD systems.
Three (3) years' experience with fire and EMS dispatching methodologies.
Understanding of file management.
A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
Additional Requirements
Ability to work independently to ensure that the assigned workforce achieves accurate and timely results.
Ability to troubleshoot computer software and hardware configurations as well as schedule maintenance.
Ability to analyze assigned functions and to make recommendations for efficient methods of operation.
Ability to track system support requests and communicate status updates
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Understanding of emergency response in relation to EMS or Fire background.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.
Must be able to obtain CPR Certification within 1 year.
Must be able to obtain Florida 911 Public Safety Telecommunicator Certification within 1 year.
Must be able to obtain International Academy of Emergency Medical Dispatcher certification within 1 year.
Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge/experience in the following:
- Windows Operating Systems
- Backup and recovery functions
- Geographic information systems (GIS)
- Web access applications
- MS Windows Migration Tools
- MS Windows – XP and 7 enterprise (32 and 64 bit)
- MS SharePoint
- Mobile Data Terminals – including connection, VPN, and system administration functions
- Mobile Client Software experience
