Essential Functions

DESCRIPTION:
The Coordinator, Disability Support Services Wellness and Support coordinates the department wellness initiatives such as monthly events, community outreach and recruitment events as well as brain training services. Provides information, services, and appropriate accommodations and modifications necessary to ensure equal access to students with disabilities as well coordinating all sign language services and schedules.
Essential Functions
- Coordinates monthly wellness activities which includes identifying wellness topics, collaborating with internal and external departments/partners, and marketing events.
- Coordinates the brain training for the College which includes the use of brain health resource equipment and technologies, maintains equipment, coordinates schedule for internal and community use.
- Search internet for trends and best practices in wellness initiatives and brain training technology.
- Conducts student in-takes, evaluates students’ service needs, makes recommendations on academic accommodations and refers students to appropriate on and off-campus resources or agencies (e.g. Academic Success Center, Career Development, Financial Aid, Veteran Affairs, Vocational Rehabilitation, Division of Blind Services).
- Meets with at-risk students to inform them about appropriate classroom conduct and learning strategies.
- Maintains records and database of provided support services.
- Coordinates and communicates schedules for sign language interpreters.
- Advises faculty and students on captioning and sign language services and accommodations.
- Performs other duties as may be required or assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology, special education, social work, or a related field.
- Three years of experience working with individuals with disabilities in a work setting.
1 Three years of experience working with disabled students in an educational setting (K-12 or higher education).
- Master’s degree in related area from an accredited institution.
- Knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and other appropriate laws pertaining to higher education and disability.
- Knowledge of the types of reasonable academic accommodations that can be provided to students with disabilities.
- Knowledge of college enrollment functions, including admissions, placement testing, advising, and financial aid applications.
- Knowledge of college-wide student information systems.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel.
- Ability to work well in a highly collaborative and team-oriented environment.
- Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to provide excellent customer service.
- Ability to schedule staff.
- Ability to work in a flexible and fast paced environment, exercising good judgment and discretion without close supervision.
- Ability to use multiple modes of contact to serve the needs of students including face-to-face interaction, electronic interaction, and telephone.
