Responsibilities

DESCRIPTION: The Senior Software Engineer creates, maintains, supports, and upgrades internal web applications. Administers web development and programming standards and serves as a technical lead, contributing to and directing the efforts of the development team. Responsible for containerization, Continuous Integration (CI), Continuous Delivery (CD), and application development, as well as continuously improving application CI/CD pipelines. Researches and maintains current with the latest related industry trends and technologies.

Essential Functions

  • Develops and deploys new web applications.
  • Designs, develops, and installs enhancements and upgrades to existing web applications.
  • Manages and coordinates staff activities as technical lead related to design, development, and implementation of web applications.
  • Documents and demonstrates solutions by developing documentation, flowcharts, layouts, code comments, and clear code.
  • Implements policies and procedures for the web application development team.
  • Reviews and analyzes the effectiveness and efficiency of existing applications and develops strategies for improvement.
  • Creates tools and processes for all team members, both on site and remote, to collaborate efficiently and effectively.
  • Identifies and resolves program errors.
  • Implements the Continuous Integration (CI) and continuous Deployment (CD) to automate software delivery workflows, including code compilation, testing, and deployment to staging or production environments.
  • Improves internal tooling and infrastructure availability of production services through the development of instrumentation, dashboards, and deployment automation.
  • Implements and maintains system configurations and baselines to support secure application development practices and meet regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Develops and maintains telemetry and analytics capabilities to provide ongoing performance metrics and ensure continued system success.
  • Monitors and alert on the performance and availability of WebSupport servers.
  • Updates job knowledge by studying state-of-the-art development tools, programming techniques, and computing equipment; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; and participating in professional organizations.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.


Required Qualifications

  • Associates degree from a regionally or nationally accredited institution in Computer Science, IT, or related field.
  • Eight years of work experience in software development (e.g. Software Engineer, Programmer, or Web Developer).
  • One year of experience with containerization, e.g. Docker.
  • One year of experience with application deployment. e.g. Continuous Integration (CI) / Continuous Deployment (CD) or DevOps.


OR

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally or nationally accredited institution in Computer Science, IT, or related field.
  • Four years of work experience in software development (e.g. Software Engineer, Programmer, or Web Developer).
  • One year of experience with containerization, e.g. Docker.
  • One year of experience with application deployment. e.g. Continuous Integration (CI) / Continuous Deployment (CD) or DevOps.


Desired Qualifications

  • One year of experience as team lead in a software development team, providing guidance on technical decisions, ensuring project quality, and delivering solutions.


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Advanced understanding of the PHP programming language, regex, and JavaScript/AJAX.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in object-oriented programming, database design, and programming principles.
  • Proficient with PHP frameworks such as Zend, Laravel or Symfony.
  • Advanced knowledge of DevOps practices, especially Containerization.
  • Advanced knowledge of Configuration Management software such as Ansible, Chef, and Puppet.
  • Advanced knowledge of Web and network protocols.
  • Advanced knowledge of the Linux operating system.
  • Proficient in configuring server software such as Apache, NGINX, Redis, and PHP.
  • Advanced understanding of databases such as MSSQL and mySQL.
  • Skilled in organization and attention to detail with the ability to multi-task in an interactive, diverse environment while adapting to shifting priorities.
  • Ability to function as team lead with highly technical staff.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office suite skills (Outlook, Word, Excel) and the ability to become proficient in videoconferencing applications, including Teams/Zoom.
  • Ability to exhibit a professional, courteous demeanor.
  • Committed to working in a multi-cultural environment.

Conditions of Employment
