DESCRIPTION:
The Cross Country Coach (Part-time) is responsible for leading the Cross Country athletic programs at Seminole State College. The Coach is responsible for recruiting student-athletes, organizing and conducting practices, scheduling meets and tournaments, and supervising pre-meet and post-meet activities. Monitors and is responsible for academic progress of student-athletes in the program commensurate with other SSC students.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Recruits student-athletes that will best represent Seminole State College academically, athletically and in the community. Abides by all the rules, regulations, and procedures of Seminole State College, The FSCAA, and the NJCAA, and records and reports statistics to state and national organizations as required. Works cooperatively with the Athletic Director to develop appropriate parameters for participation under equity guidelines.
2. Establishes lines of communication with high school athletic directors, high school coaches, and area running organizations. Attends and watches high school and summer meets, evaluates transcripts, and make telephone calls and personal visits to recruit new student-athletes.
3. Develops competition schedule within available resources. Sets up and breaks down equipment after competitions and may be required to lift up to 50 lbs of equipment. Supervises and coaches at intercollegiate competitions.
4. Directs training and practice programs for the team. Improves student-athlete strength, skill and stamina level and supervises at practice for use in competition.
5. Coordinates and conducts an academic monitoring procedure that will help promote student success. Schedules mandatory study halls and receives and follows up on faculty evaluations of player academic progress. Maintains appropriate team conduct and personal conduct any time the team represents the college. Disciplines student athletes when necessary.
6. Develops goodwill with community leaders, youth organizations, and Seminole County High Schools. Conducts 5K runs or other community/youth activities to assist with the skill development of local athletes.
7. With consultation from the Athletic Director, manages the sport budgets, facilities and equipment. Raises funds to help support the operation of the athletic program. Selects, evaluates, and schedules part-time assistant coach and student managers or assistants.
8. Manages pre-game and post-game preparation for meets. Makes travel arrangements for team for away events/meets.
9. Organizes the Seminole Strider Club (devoted to moving, walking and running for Faculty, Staff and students)
10. Markets the successes of the athletic program to peers and colleagues at the College, community college counterparts in the state, and community leaders and other persons outside the College. Develops an information relationship with external media representatives and cooperates in supporting the college sports information effort.
11. Secures, supervises, and is responsible for housing for the student-athletes as applicable.
12. Performs all site and position specific responsibilities as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
2. Two years of assistant coaching experience in high school or higher education.
3. Valid driver's license and ability to obtain Florida driver's license within 30 days of hire.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Three (3) years of Community/Jr. College or University head coaching experience or five (5) years high school head coaching experience at the varsity level.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
1. Extensive knowledge of running.
2. Ability to demonstrate and teach athletic skills.
3. Ability to relate to and communicate with student athletes.
4. Ability to follow directions from supervisors.
5. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
6. Ability to exhibit a professional, courteous demeanor.
7. Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel and Outlook.
8. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs of equipment for tournaments and meets.
9. Committed to working in a multicultural environment.

WORK CONDITIONS and SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:
1. Works flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
2. Travels overnight to away events and tournaments as required.
3. Works outside exposed to heat, cold, rain, sun, wind and other weather conditions.
4. Works on athletic tracks and sports fields.

COLLEGE CELL PHONE USAGE:
The College anticipates that the position incumbent must be available throughout parts of the workday and, on some occasions, after regular work hours. Therefore, as a condition of employment, the incumbent is expected to be available by cell phone and is required to provide their current cell phone number to the Office of Human Resources and to their immediate supervisor.

Finalists and individuals recommended for employment at Seminole State College may be subject to background investigations and fingerprinting in compliance with Florida Statute 1001.64; and Seminole State College Policy 1.020; 2.020. Criminal background checks and fingerprinting will be conducted for all new employees, and for rehired employees who have had a break in service for one year or more. The Office of Human Resources will determine which background checks shall be conducted for each position, based upon its review of job descriptions and the responsibilities of the position. These include, but are not limited to, positions that have access to money, master keys, security-sensitive areas and confidential information; positions that have the capability to create, delete, and alter records; and positions that are responsible for the care and instruction of children. The College will conduct various types of background checks which may include, but are not limited to: criminal background, credit check, driver's license check, previous employment and references.
