What are the responsibilities and job description for the Paralegal / Legal Assistant / Legal Secretary position at Semmes Law Firm?
We are a small and successful, family-owned law practice that specializes in Family Law, Wills and Trusts. We are looking to hire a Paralegal, Legal Assistant, or Legal Secretary to assist and support our attorney with various tasks. Pay will be determined according to experience.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- draft motions and pleadings.
- help develop cases by maintaining contact with people involved in the case.
- keep clients informed by maintaining contact and communicating case progress.
- maintain case costs by verifying outstanding balances with attorneys, clients, and providers.
- support case preparation by preparing case summaries and materials for court and mediation.
- enhance trial proceedings by organizing evidence, preparing exhibits, and preparing case files.
- keep cases organized by establishing and organizing files.
- monitor calendars and take notes during meetings.
- add information to file database and case management software.
- must maintain client confidentiality.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required
- Associate degree in paralegal studies, a paralegal certificate, or a Bachelor's degree preferred, but not required
- 1-5 years of experience as a legal assistant, legal secretary, or paralegal preferred
- Detail-oriented and highly organized
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and professional demeanor
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Ability to work independently, be able to multi-task, manage large workloads, and keep deadlines.
Pay based on experience.
