What are the responsibilities and job description for the Staff Accountant position at Semper Solaris Construction, Inc.?
We are seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team in El Cajon, CA. This position will report to the Senior Accountant and focus on supporting accurate inventory records and ensuring compliance with internal controls. This position will also support the month end close and take on ad hoc tasks and initiatives to support the department and the business.
Responsibilities:
- Record and monitor inventory transactions to ensure timely and accurate updates to the general ledger.
- Assist with reconciliations of inventory sub-ledgers to the general ledger to ensure accurate reporting.
- Support monthly inventory close processes by preparing journal entries and reviewing inventory balances.
- Assist in analyzing material costs and identifying any unusual variances or trends.
- Conduct regular cycle counts and assist with annual physical counts to ensure accuracy in inventory records.
- Maintain inventory control procedures and assist with tracking inventory adjustments and transfers.
- Support the Solar Division’s RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) process by ensuring proper documentation and adjustments.
- Research inventory exceptions to confirm proper treatment.
- Assist with generating inventory-related reports for management review and decision-making.
- Collaborate with warehouse and operations teams to ensure accurate and efficient inventory tracking.
- Record month end close entries and complete or review monthly reconciliations as assigned
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least 1 year of experience in accounting for inventory, including performing or supporting cycle counts or physical inventories.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel - Pivot tables, Template Building, Advanced Formulas
- Experience accounting for RMAs is a plus.
- Familiarity with inventory costing methods such as average costing.
- Experience with ERP systems, such as NetSuite, is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
