Primary Purpose
The Corporate Financial Reporting Accountant applies in depth knowledge to perform the timely and accurate preparation of the Company's internal and external financial reporting, including the preparation of the Company's monthly consolidated analyses and SEC filings on Forms 10-Q, 10-K and 8-K, with minimal direction from senior team members, supervisors and/or managers.

Primary Purpose
The Corporate Financial Reporting Accountant applies in depth knowledge to perform the timely and accurate preparation of the Company's internal and external financial reporting, including the preparation of the Company's monthly consolidated analyses and SEC filings on Forms 10-Q, 10-K and 8-K, with minimal direction from senior team members, supervisors and/or managers.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Assists with the financial reporting process in support of filing quarterly, annual and current reports with the SEC (Forms 10-Q, 10-K, and 8-K). This includes preparation of supporting workpapers, the SEC/U.S.
- GAAP disclosure checklist and eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) tagging. Also assists with preparation of the quarterly earnings release materials and the annual statistical report.
- Prepares workpapers and consolidating journal entries on a monthly basis to support consolidated financial statements and fluctuation analyses used in reports provided to senior management.
- Coordinates with accounting teams and other departments (e.g., business units, legal, finance, etc.) across Sempra and its subsidiaries for data collection and questions/issues related to the monthly and quarterly financial close.
- Assists with continuous improvements to various financial reporting processes, including assisting in the implementation of upgrades to our financial reporting software (Workiva).
- Performs technical accounting and SEC research related to areas of responsibility.
- Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).
Education
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics or related business administration field is required.
- CPA, CMA, MBA and/or other professional certificates/advanced degrees is preferred.
- 3 years of experience in public and/or professional accounting is required.
- 5 years of experience in public and/or professional accounting is preferred.
- Big Four accounting experience is preferred.
- Must reside in Southern California or be willing to relocate upon hire.
- We offer a hybrid work environment. Although the schedule may vary, typically this will allow you to work from the office three days per week and work remotely on the remaining workdays.
The following skills and abilities are required:
- Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP to determine appropriateness of accounting and financial reporting treatment.
- Must demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills.
- Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to interface effectively with all levels within the organization.
- Proficient with Adobe and the Microsoft Office suite of products, including strong Excel and Word skills.
- Team player who can establish positive and productive working relationships with others within the team and across departments.
- Self-starter who brings energy, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude to every responsibility and project. Has a passion for innovative ideas and a sustained focus on continuous improvement.
- Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment with demanding deadlines.
- Workiva (Wdesk), Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) proficiency is desirable is preferred.
