What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Floral Department Manager position at SENDIK'S FINE FOODS, INC.?
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE: To assist in planning and managing the Floral Department so as to promote sales and achieve profit margins and labor goals. To contribute toward ensuring a positive shopping environment for customers and a positive working environment for employees.
NATURE AND SCOPE: Emphasis in this position is ongoing department planning, execution and evaluation in order to ensure maximum sales and profit opportunities, effective cost control, efficient utilization of labor and strong customer service levels. The primary challenge is consistently meeting or exceeding department profit and labor goals. This position requires ongoing judgment/decision making, social skills/verbal interaction, listening skills, reading, writing, math, moderate to heavy lifting, walking, operation of pallet jack and knives and exposure to cold temperatures and wet surfaces. Position functions and work hours may vary according to business needs. The Floral Manager or person in charge provides assignments and work direction.
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:
Assist in developing effective daily/weekly work plan based on weekly sales projections, budgeted labor goals and previous operating results
- Assist in analyzing sales and labor projections
- Assist in planning promotions
- Determine work priorities and establish work lists in order to consistently maintain adequate department conditions
- Communicate with the Floral Manager concerning ongoing department status, including successes, problems and planning
Assist in implementing and maintaining coordinated, aggressive and creative merchandising plans, which maximize sales, variety and gross profit
- Consistently monitor mix of demand and profit items, shelf allocation, variety, movement and stock levels to properly order merchandise and meet sales and gross profit goals
- Collaborate with vendors on approved space allocation, display and deal buying and follow through on product quality, and credits as appropriate
- Ensure of proper product quality, presentation and rotation
- Assist with stocking and display building
Assist in supervising floral employees to ensure efficient labor utilization and effectiveness in meeting department objectives
- Effectively communicate tasks and priorities
- Follow up to ensure proper task completion and adherence to store and department policies and procedures
- Ensure customers receive prompt and friendly service and assistance from all department employees
- Ensure proper product handling to control shrinkage and waste
Assist in managing floral department receiving, invoicing, pricing, shrink control and inventory, to ensure proper product control and that gross profit goals are met
- Assist to ensure accuracy and organization of receiving function
- Assist in processing invoices accurately and timely, check credits and transfer slips for accuracy
- Assist in taking accurate inventory
- Assist in collaborating with pricing department to ensure department pricing and signing is accurately maintained for all items, and monitors price sensitive items in market
Assist in supervising department safety and sanitation programs
- Ensure all employees are properly trained in equipment use, maintenance and sanitation standards, proper lifting and all related safety rules and procedures
- Ensure no one under 18 years of age operates hazardous equipment
- Ensure employees use personal protective devices (safety glasses, cut resistant gloves) as required
Create customer orders
- Provide courteous, prompt and accurate customer service
- Determine type, style and price of arrangement desired
- Design arrangement according to order and Sendik’s Fine Foods standards
- Package order
- Coordinate orders that request delivery
Receive and price as necessary all plants and fresh flowers supplied
- Check shipment for content and quality
- Verify delivery to invoices and signs for product
- Strip, cut, condition and price flowers properly
- Create daily/weekly bouquet and arrangement recipes/designs
- Follow retails and prices for all product and put on display
- Ensure proper pricing in all store and department systems
Maintain Walk-in Customer Cooler
- Monitor and rotate stock levels for freshness daily
- Keep fresh cut flower and bouquet displays looking full and fresh at all times
- Maintain fresh arrangements so that displays are full and offer a nice selection of price points
- Floors should be swept and cleaned of debris and slip hazards
- Keep cooler doors clean and free of dirt and smudges
Maintain Floral Supply Cooler
- Keep product well organized for maximum functionality
- Product should be checked and rotated daily for freshness
- Floors should be swept and cleaned of debris and sip hazards
Maintain Green and Blooming Plant Displays
- Monitor all plants for water and care daily
- Remove dead leaves and blooms
- Keep displays looking full and clean of debris
Follow all store and department policies and procedures
