Bakery Clerk (Full-Time or Part-Time)

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE: To provide wrapping, stocking, and customer service support for the Bakery Department. To contribute toward ensuring a positive shopping environment for customers and a positive working environment for employees.

POSITION FOCUS: Emphasis in the Bakery Clerk position is to consistently service customers and to prepare and display product to ensure maximum sales and product availability. Position functions and work hours may vary according to business needs. The Bakery Manager or person in charge proved assignments and work direction.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS OF BAKERY CLERK

• Greet customers in the department and offer suggestive selling
• Attend to customer needs for ordering, information, and counter service
• Slice and package bread and buns
• Package baked good & pastries per service counter orders
• Label all wrapped product
• Pull expired product and record quantity and retail
• Prepare sales area by cleaning cases and bins
• Stock, rotate and face product
• Answer department telephone calls and pages
• Allow baked goods to cool and glaze or drizzle appropriate product
• Clean department and maintain conditions in the back room

Follow all store and department policies and procedures

FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS OF BAKERY CLERK

Physical

• Lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs.
• Pushing/pulling up to 150 lbs.
• Equipment operation (mixer, scraper, scales, knives, proofer, oven, timer, decorating tubes, lazy Susan, wrapping machine, racks, labeler, bread slicer, calculator, spatula, cleaning utensils, telephone)
• Reaching, turning, walking, sitting, standing, squatting, kneeling, stooping, bending, climbing ladders

Mental

• Judgment/decision making

• Social skills/verbal interaction
• Reading, writing, math
• Memorization

Environmental

• Working with hot equipment
• Exposure to fatty acids and smoke
• Working in cold conditions
