Seneca Creek Community Church (SCCC) has been serving the city of Gaithersburg and surrounding communities in Montgomery County since 1989. In 2011, we began offering free English classes for our neighbors with limited English proficiency. Our ESOL program began as a group of 38 learners and has developed into a thriving ministry serving hundreds of learners annually.

We seek a dedicated and passionate ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) teacher to join our team for the Fall semester (Mid-September to early December). As an ESOL teacher, you will play a vital role in helping students with limited English proficiency develop their language skills to overcome obstacles and accomplish their dreams. This is a part-time paid position requiring you to be on-site from 7 PM - 9 PM on Tuesday and Wednesdays for 10 weeks (ending mid-June 2025 ). We kindly request individuals to arrive 15 minutes early. Please note that occasionally there might be a necessity to remain past 9 PM as students may require assistance after class.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Design and deliver effective ESOL lessons:

Plan and teach lessons utilizing the Ventures 3rd Edition series and other supporting materials provided.

Teach classes Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 7-9pm.

Employ various instructional strategies and materials to facilitate language learning, including textbooks, audio-visual aids, technology, and real-life scenarios.

Incorporate listening, speaking, reading, and writing activities to improve overall language proficiency.

Incorporate innovative teaching approaches and tools to enhance the learning experience for students.

2. Assess and monitor student progress:

Conduct assessments to determine students' English proficiency levels and identify areas for improvement.

Regularly evaluate student performance through assignments, tests, and quizzes.

Provide constructive feedback and track individual progress to support students' continuous development.

Maintain current and accurate student records in the database, including attendance and test scores.

3. Create a supportive and inclusive learning environment:

Foster a welcoming and respectful atmosphere where students feel comfortable expressing themselves and taking risks in using English.

Promote cultural understanding and sensitivity among students by celebrating diversity and encouraging open discussions.

Cultivate positive relationships with students, addressing their concerns and motivating them to achieve their language goals.

4. Collaborate with program staff, colleagues, and key stakeholders

Coordinate with other teachers and staff to align ESOL instruction with the overall curriculum and educational objectives.

Attend staff meetings, professional development workshops, and training events.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILL:

· Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field preferred, but not required.

· Teaching certification or license in ESOL or ESL (English as a Second Language).

· Previous experience teaching ESOL/ESL to students of diverse backgrounds and proficiency levels.

· Strong command of the English language, including grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation.

· Familiarity with language acquisition theories, teaching methodologies, and assessment strategies.

· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively engage with students, colleagues, and parents/guardians.

· Cultural sensitivity and ability to adapt teaching approaches to meet the diverse needs of students.

· Proficiency in leveraging technology and digital tools for instructional purposes.

· Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
