The Assistant Director plays a critical role in overseeing the operations and staff of the STEP Program. This position involves a combination of personnel management, clinical supervision, program development, and collaborative leadership to ensure the effective delivery of services. Key responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and evaluating staff, providing ongoing supervision and performance feedback, and fostering a positive and supportive work environment. As the Assistant Director you will intervene to ensure the safety of clients, regularly communicate and collaborate with external partners, such as Kaiser, and travel between STEP programs for staff training and group support.
ABOUT STEP
The STEP (Skills, Transitions, Exploration, and Progress) Program is a partnership between Kaiser Permanente and Seneca, providing Partial Hospitalization services to youth ages 12-17. The goal of the STEP program is to provide intensive, short-term and stabilization services to enable our clients to step down to lower levels of outpatient mental health treatment. All groups are designed to teach youth the skills necessary to help them learn about their mental health, provide psychoeducation, and help them learn skills to feel better and be safe. Our STEP program are located in Petaluma, Fairfield, Concord, Oakland, Union City, and San Jose, CA.

RESPONISBILITIES
- Perform the following personnel functions related to STEP: interviewing and hiring, supervision, evaluation.
- Ensure that adequate supervision around improvement of job performance is provided in a supportive, constructive manner.
- Provide in-person leadership for staff in creating a positive work environment
- Work with the manager of operations to ensure staff training needs are met
- Ensure day to day program consistently adheres to the STEP treatment model
- Participate in program visioning and program development
- Provide support to the psychiatry team and nurse manager
- Ensure that the program is run in a safe, therapeutic and effective manner
- Develop cooperative, effective and functional teams to ensure that the program developed is implemented
- Monitor the prompt completion of employees required paperwork and work with the QA manager to ensure that STEP is in compliance with Joint Commission regulations.
- Oversite of clinical supervision to unlicensed clinicians
- Intervene to keep youth safe. This includes possible physical management of clients (implementing of Seneca’s Equilibrium Model Training) as necessary
- Oversee STEP internship program and provide clinical supervision to unlicensed clinicians
- Provide support to the STEP referral line as well as intake coordination coverage when needed
- Maintain positive relationship with Kaiser by coordinating regularly with liaisons and clinics and participating in outreach efforts including presentations
- Travel between STEP programs to provide as-needed group support and staff training
QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED
- Master’s degree in social work/psychology/counseling
- Registered with California BBS: Fully licensed
- 2 years post-license experience (or within a few months)
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and insurability through Seneca Family of Agencies’ insurance policy
- TB test clearance, fingerprinting clearance, and any other state/federal licensing or certification requirements
SCHEDULE
- Full-time; Monday - Friday; 8am - 4pm
- Hybrid; provide in-person services & complete documentation remotely
