Description

Current opening is for per diem shifts.

You will be required to work, if needed, at least four (4) shifts every four (4) week period. Operating Room shifts are on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Summary

The Surgical Technician functions as a team member during the preoperative, intra-operative and postoperative phases of the surgical procedure. They are medical professionals who assist Surgeons during a procedure. They are responsible for preparing and organizing surgical rooms, cleaning equipment for procedures that require it and maintaining a sterile environment.

Essential Functions

  • Prepare and organize the operating room equipment, instruments, and supplies as required for various surgical procedures

  • Anticipate surgeon and patient needs during a procedure

  • Take care of specimens, prepare, check, and monitor medications, and assist with dressings

  • Set up a sterile and sanitary environment, and maintain the sterile field for the patient during procedures

  • Utilize correct body mechanics in moving, transporting, and positioning patients, stretchers, and/or tables in order to prevent injury to patient and personnel

  • Follow relevant safety and sanitation guidelines

  • Participate in orientation and education of all operating room staff on an ongoing basis

  • Participate in stocking and restocking medical supplies

  • Inspect, replace, and sterilize medical instruments

  • Provide surgeons and patients with necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment

  • Capable of following manufacturer's recommendations for cleaning supplies related to decontamination of GI scopes

  • Capable of using computer software programs for documentation, inventory control, and educational programs

  • Subject to follow physicians or mid-levels providers during clinical settings to encompass care of patients from intake through check out process

  • Perform job duties as a Clinical Medical Assistant.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent

  • Certification as a surgical technician preferred, or similar experience in an operating room

  • 1-2 years’ experience working as a surgical technician

  • Continuing in-service and education programs are required

  • Current AHA Basic Life Support certificate is required

  • Demonstrated knowledge of operation and maintenance of equipment and supplies located in the operating room.

  • Must demonstrate technical competence, professional judgment and sensitivity for the patients and families.

  • Must be able to interact professionally and effectively communicate with physicians, staff, patients, and public.

  • Must have the ability to organize, prioritize and problem solve efficiently.

  • Must have the ability to work in a demanding environment while remaining calm, efficient, and focused.

  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

  • Must be able to meet competency requirements.

  • Must have the ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
