What are the responsibilities and job description for the Phlebotomist position at Seneca Nation Health System?
BASIC FUNCTION:
Incumbent is responsible for performing clinical laboratory procedures, phlebotomy, quality assurance, instrument maintenance, monthly reports, and inventory maintenance.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Draws blood using proper technique for all age groups.
- Adheres to proper infection control measures at all times.
- Completes laboratory requisition forms, records all information necessary for patient care into the electronic health record (EHR) accurately in a timely manner, and prepares monthly reports.
- Labels all specimen collection tubes/vials/containers correctly and completely.
- Conducts CLIA-waived testing procedures on various collected samples including but not limited to: HCT, rapid strep, UHCG, fecal occult blood, PT/INR, UA, blood glucose, HbA1c, rapid flu, monospot.
- Runs and documents quality control tests on lab equipment.
- Reviews result reports and immediately contacts nurses or providers, as appropriate, with critical values.
- Maintains and schedules patients for laboratory procedures as needed.
- Tracks all tests ordered and performs follow-up procedures as needed.
- Maintains stock supplies and performs general medical office duties within laboratory.
- Attends all mandatory staff meetings and in-services.
- Adheres to policies and procedures of the department, Seneca Nation, and Seneca Nation Health System.

· The physical stamina to stand for long periods.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· 2 years’ phlebotomy experience, to include pediatric and geriatric collections required.
· Phlebotomy or Certified Medical Assistant certification required.
· Current CPR/BLS required.
· Experience in a large hospital, academic medical center, outpatient health care setting, or Indian Health Service (IHS)/tribal health, preferred.
