Job description
Role: Senior Power Systems Engineer
Location: Majority remote, but the candidate must reside within commuting distance for onsite reporting twice a month.
Responsibilities
As a Senior Power Systems Engineer, you will:
- Oversee the design, construction, acceptance testing, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and installation of power distribution, generation, and protection equipment.
- Lead project design and implementation efforts for repairing or replacing existing systems, including taking the technical lead on smaller projects involving research and subcontractor coordination.
- Ensure power system safety for equipment, operations, and personnel by conducting Arc Flash Evaluations, Short-Circuit Studies, and Coordination & Time-Current Curve evaluations in compliance with NFPA 70E.
- Troubleshoot unexpected issues during modification projects and accurately document system changes using wiring diagrams, schematics, and other documentation.
- Provide technical guidance to operations and maintenance personnel, supporting facility teams, consultants, and field technicians across different time zones.
- Verify compatibility of new power system installations with existing infrastructure and regulatory codes while tracking equipment obsolescence and spare parts.
- Assist in planning, design, analysis, cost estimation, and provide overall technical guidance for power subsystem projects.
- Support the DSN Engineering Change Management (ECM) Board with evaluating and costing Engineering Change Requests (ECRs), delivering Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) or Modification Kits (Modkits), and troubleshooting Discrepancy Reports (DRs).
- Quickly familiarize yourself with DSN Power assemblies within Facilities and Antenna Subsystems while coordinating with electrical and control engineers and operations personnel.
- Coordinate design elements with other disciplines to ensure integration and compliance with NFPA, NETA, IEEE, and other relevant codes/standards.
- Identify lead times for major electrical equipment and mitigate single points of failure within the subsystem.
- Present technical findings and solutions to customers, demonstrating strong oral and written communication skills.
Qualifications
You’d be a great fit if you have:
- California Professional Engineering (PE) License (Required).
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution with a specialization in Power Engineering.
- 8 years of direct experience in Facility Power Distribution design and fieldwork.
- Strong knowledge of NEC Standards and relevant electrical codes.
- Ability to pass a trusted background check and National Criminal Information Check (NCIC).
- U.S. Citizenship is required to obtain security clearance.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite and strong presentation skills.

Salary : $130,000 - $160,000
