We are a busy, client-centered nonprofit law firm located in downtown Modesto, proudly serving low-income older adults in Stanislaus and Merced Counties for over a decade. Our work environment is dynamic, collaborative, and mission-driven.
Position Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Legal Assistant or Paralegal to join our team. The ideal candidate will have at least one year of legal experience and a strong commitment to serving vulnerable communities, particularly in the area of consumer debt.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support attorneys in case management and deadline tracking
- Draft, format, and proofread legal documents and bankruptcy forms
- Organize and maintain case files
- Communicate with clients, witnesses, opposing counsel, and vendors
- File and serve legal documents as needed
Requirements:
- Minimum one year of legal assistant or paralegal experience
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and reliable
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, internet research, and email
- Quick to learn new systems and processes
- Professional, flexible, and a collaborative team player
- Committed to serving low-income and older adult clients with empathy and respect
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bilingual (Spanish or other language relevant to the communities we serve)
- Experience in civil litigation and/or bankruptcy
