Fitness Assistant

REPORTS TO: Community Life Director & Fitness Coordinator
General Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Fitness Coordinator and/or the Director of Community Life the incumbent is responsible for assisting with the fitness programs and supervised exercise sessions within the community.
Primary Job Duties
- Implement and coordinate a fitness and wellness program.
- Evaluate and assess the needs and physical capabilities of each resident.
- Formulate and implement a program of exercise suited to each individual.
- Lead a variety of challenging and safe group exercise classes.
- Lead exercise programs and monitor individuals as they use exercise equipment.
- Conduct assessment, initial and ongoing, of residents and guide their participation in exercise programs and initiatives.
- Oversee the cleaning and maintenance of the fitness equipment.

- We pay attention to details.
- A degree in exercise physiology, kinesiology, or health promotion preferred. High school education with experience in geriatrics and fitness.
- One year experience in a fitness or physical therapy program in a licensed health care setting preferred.
- Experience working with the aging population.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions in English, communicate effectively, and perform simple arithmetic.
- Must be able to read, write, and follow written and verbal directions.
- Ability to plan and assume a leadership role of fitness and wellness programs.
- Ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing programs.
- Must possess an interest in keeping aging population active.
- Must possess patience and understanding of the aging population.
Salary : $18 - $20
