Position Description
Title: Food Transportation & Home Delivery Driver for Argyle, Rural Route
Time: 9:30 – 2:30 (depends on route)
Location: Darlington Dining Site
Purpose: The Food Transportation and Home Delivery Meal Driver works under the direct supervision of the site manager, to transport food from the provider to the site, and delivers meals to home delivery participants in Argyle, and a rural route in Lafayette County, including the South Wayne area.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Pick up food Monday through Friday from food provider, Lafayette Manor, and bring to meal site with van provided by SUN. Assist site manager in putting together meals at discretion of manager.
2. Deliver meals to homebound participants, using vehicle provided by SUN.
3. Work with Site Manager when a new participant requests a meal.
4. Work with Site Manager to develop the route that is most efficient.
5. If recipient doesn’t answer the door, do not leave the meal unattended. Contact site manager to call participant or the emergency contact. If recipient is not home and has contacted the site manager to leave meal, it must be put in the refrigerator.
6. Provide a general health check on participants when delivering meals. Observe changes in recipient and communicate to the Site Manager.
7. Return the Home Delivered Meal coolers and trays to the meal site daily.
8. Follow proper sanitation codes related to food service; training is provided. Keep van clean as required for food delivery.
9. Attend all training sessions required by the Executive Director.
10. Provide information and referral on nutrition services to prospective participants.
11. Maintain positive public relations within the community, as a representative of SUN.
12. Keep Site Manager informed of any concerns and meet on a regular basis to continually update and improve the nutrition program as the need arises.
13. Perform duties as requested by Site Manager or Executive Director.
14. Complete required paperwork, including time sheet, mileage log, temperature log once per quarter, and log of van maintenance, including washing & vacuuming.
15. Notify Site Manager of any needed repairs or maintenance of van: oil changes, new tires and rotation, filling gas.
16. Ability to keep confidential, any personal information that is shared by home delivery recipients.
Skills and Abilities:
· The ability to complete multiple tasks in a timely manner.
· The ability to be flexible in an ever-changing environment; problem solve when unexpected situation arises.
· Ability to communicate effectively by expressing thoughts, ideas and listening. Ability to speak with elderly and disabled people in friendly, respectful manner.
· Ability to drive a van in a safe and prudent way, while completing route in a timely manner.
· Ability to observe basic mechanical issues with the van, and report to Site Manager.
Qualifications:
· Be in good physical health. Must be able to go up and down steps.
· Knowledge of safe food handling and work habits, and proper sanitation.
· Willingness to work with Senior Citizens, and be respectful and patient.
· Have valid driver’s license and good driving record. Must have auto insurance.
· Experienced driver.
· Ability to keep accurate and neat records.
Physical Environment:
- Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds.
- May be exposed to hot surfaces.
- May be exposed to potentially harmful cleaning agents, if not used properly.
- May use kitchen equipment which can be potentially dangerous.

Employees must pass a criminal background check before hire and may be required to pass a drug test once employed if there is reasonable cause for suspicion for violation of SUN’s drug and alcohol-free workplace policies. Experience with a non-profit agency and the needs of seniors is desirable. Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding services provided through agency as well as maintaining confidential business information.

Pay: $11.02 per hour
