Our combined 407,000 square feet of manufacturing facilities across the United States house over 88 grand and large format digital printers, custom automated finishing equipment, and coating capabilities to produce printed recyclable materials up to 16 ft wide. Our prepress department processes more than 20,000 files per day with the aid of proprietary software automation tools. We operate around-the-clock, 7 days a week to deliver extraordinary customer service, and print over 431 million square feet of material annually. Position Mission:
The Lead Print Que Manager (PQM) has the primary responsibility to oversee printer scheduling and batching activities, to include: organization of WIP to ensure products are processed and to post press on time, dispositioning, ordering reprints, basic troubleshooting of manufacturing equipment and communication and escalation of all production, maintenance and/or personnel related issues to the Production Manager, OOH. The PQM is also responsible for supervising print operators. This position is responsible for ensuring all OOH printer operators are adhering to all company and safety policies. The PQM is also responsible for supporting any initiatives related to continuous improvement initiatives.
Working Environment and Physical Demands
Fast-paced production environment. Requires prolonged standing, walking, bending, sitting at a computer, lifting (weights up to 50 lbs) and stretching. Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, calculator, computer, printer and other manufacturing equipment. Requires a normal range of hearing and vision to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports. Requires eyesight correctable to 20/20 to read numbers, reports and computer terminals. The environment is not climate controlled.
Tasks description – Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
PRODUCTION SCHEDULING: 70% of position responsibility
- Organization of Work In Process (WIP) by date
- Establish and oversee daily tasks of production operators, maintaining a low rate of overtime and maximizing the number and quality of daily shipments
- Communicate with customer service and/or quality control when special instructions or QC is required
- Manage print queue and communicate batch status and priority to Print Operators
- Assist with production duties as needed and ensure safety of all employees
- Send status reports at established frequencies to maximize communication across various departments and shifts
EQUIPMENT TROUBLESHOOTING: 10% of position responsibility
- Help with basic troubleshooting of all production equipment
- Work with employees and maintenance technicians on appropriate repairs of all equipment
- Work with employees to ensure basic maintenance and cleanliness of all production equipment
- Communicate machine downtime to maintenance and assist with the repair as needed
EMPLOYEE TRAINING: 10% of position responsibility
- Maintain current knowledge of all operational standard operating procedures (SOP’s) and best practices
- Maintain consistency of best practices between all employees and all teams
- Ensure all employees are properly trained, certified and are comfortable performing required duties safely and efficiently
- Ensure operators are cross-trained on a variety of duties within the area to maximize employee utilization and reduce the need for overtime
CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT: 10% of position responsibility
- Identify and communicate potential process improvements – assist Production Manager, HiRes on all improvement initiatives
- Identify cost savings opportunities (labor and yield) – assist Production Manager, HiRes on all cost savings initiatives. Learn and communicate progress toward metric goals
- Foster good communication between employees across all shifts to ensure process changes and improvements are implemented consistently and effectively
Additional Task and Responsibilities
- Other duties and special projects as assigned
- Work directly with the Director of Operations, Hi-Res (Longmont) on special projects as needed.
Skills, Intellectual Demands and Job Requirements:
EDUCATION AND FORMAL TRAINING:
- High School diploma or G.E.D equivalent preferred
- Experience working in a high-transaction manufacturing environment preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:
- Proven ability to be an effective communicator with employees and management
- Proven ability to act independently, exercise judgment and influence people to take appropriate actions
- Excellent attention to detail and follow through with communication and a sense of urgency for deadlines
