Overview:


Sentinel Safety & Security Group, LLC is a dynamic strategic ownership group rapidly growing operations in the design, fabrication, installation, and maintenance of commercial fire sprinkler systems. We are looking to expand our team to include a Director of Accounting in our Appleton, WI corporate office.


We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Director of Accounting to join our finance team. In this role, the Director of Accounting will be responsible for overseeing various accounting functions, with a strong emphasis on GAAP accounting, month-end close activities, and consolidation for various entities. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of accounting principles, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively within a fast-paced environment.

Director of Accounting Responsibilities:


Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:


Accounting:

  • Experience in corporate accounting and cost accounting (preferably in the construction industry), ensuring accurate financial reporting and effective cost management.
  • Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) in all financial reporting and accounting practices.

Consolidation:

  • Manage the consolidation of financial statements for various entities, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
  • Oversee the preparation and maintenance of consolidated financial reports, providing insights and recommendations based on financial analysis.

Annual Audit:

  • Lead the annual audit process, coordinating with external auditors and ensuring timely and accurate completion.
  • Prepare and review audit schedules, providing necessary documentation and support to auditors.

Month-End and Year-End Close Process:

  • Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate completion of all tasks and maintain proper close checklists.
  • Oversee the posting of monthly accruals for expenses or other necessary general ledger adjustments.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reconciliations of all general ledger accounts, identifying discrepancies and resolving issues.
  • Proficient in overseeing bookkeeping tasks, including transaction recording, data entry, and maintaining accurate financial records.

Intercompany Account Reconciliations:

  • Ensure intercompany (I/C) accounts reconcile properly among all business units and work closely with the site teams to resolve discrepancies and ensure accurate reporting.

Fixed Assets and Lease Management:

  • Oversee the preparation and maintenance of fixed asset addition and disposal packets, ensuring accurate documentation and compliance.
  • Review fixed asset reconciliations monthly to ensure asset records match the general ledger.
  • Oversee the visual lease system, ensuring that lease data is up to date and provide monthly lease entries to business units in accordance with accounting standards and reporting requirements.

Budget and Forecast Process:

  • Support the annual budget and forecast process, collaborating with various departments to ensure accurate and timely submissions.
  • Provide financial analysis and insights to assist in the development of budgets and forecasts.

Accounts Payable, and Expense Management:

  • Review and approve AP invoices for accuracy and compliance with company policies.
  • Oversee the management of company credit cards and expense reports to ensure timely processing and approval of transactions.

Ad-Hoc Responsibilities:

  • Provide support for various ad-hoc accounting and finance projects, as assigned.


Director of Accounting Qualifications:


Professional Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years of accounting experience, with a strong emphasis on month-end close processes, financial reporting, and consolidation and minimum of 5 years leading staff members.
  • Proven experience in leading month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate completion of all tasks.
  • Extensive experience in preparing and reviewing financial reports, including balance sheet reconciliations and monthly accruals.
  • Solid experience in managing the consolidation of financial statements for various entities, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial regulations, and internal controls (e.g., GAAP).
  • Experience in account reconciliations, intercompany accounting, and credit card/expense management.
  • Public accounting experience is preferred.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Foundation Software, NetSuite, Fixed Asset Software (FAS), Visual Lease) and Microsoft Excel (moderate to advanced skills preferred).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues, propose solutions, and implement improvements.
  • High attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate financial information.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

Education Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
