What are the responsibilities and job description for the SD Field Welder position at Sentry?
The field welder position is responsible for field welding pipe spools and general fabricated steel on location and pulling the measurements required for a dimensionally sound products. This position may also require non-welding tasks, to assist other departments in field. This individual is also responsible for giving direction to a welder’s helper that will assist in all setup tasks.

Roles and Responsibilities
The job duties and responsibilities of this position will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Use hand-welding or flame-cutting equipment to weld or join metals components, or to fill holes, indentations, or seams of fabricated metal products or pipe.
- Read a Weld Procedure Specification (WPS) to produce a weld according to the requirements of the procedure.
- Stick weld components in flat, vertical or overhead positions. Ignite torches or start power suppliers and strike arcs by touching electrodes to metals being welded.
- Fabricate and construct piping segments and attach fittings that require field fit-up, erection and assembly.
- Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind or bolt component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding.
- Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisors.
- Recognize, set-up and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment.
- Follows all safety policies and procedures.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of experience in field welding.
- Proficient in SMAW and TIG welding procedures
- Physical Demands: Occasional sitting, frequent stooping, crouching, kneeling, balancing and climbing and constant standing, walking, reaching and gripping.
- Material Handling: Lifting from floor level to overhead, with occasional lifting up to 115 lbs., frequent lifting up to 50 lbs., and constant lifting up to 25 lbs.
- Required Education: High School diploma and/or equivalent work experience.
- Must successfully pass a background check and drug test
