General Shop worker with Light Welding Job Summary
We are looking for an energetic, enthusiastic shop assistant to join our growing team. In this entry level position, the worker will primarily handle general tasks such as organizing materials, assisting shop supervisors and project managers with assembly, and maintaining cleanliness, while also performing light welding tasks, when necessary, while learning the basics of manufacturing including how to operate machinery.
Shop Assistant Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate equipment such as band saw, cut off saw, belt sander, drill press, and disc grinder.
- Perform light welding tasks such as tack welding, and basic repairs on metal parts under supervision or using established guidelines.
- Provide general assistance around the shop
- Help with assembly of products, and parts as required.
- Prepare Metal surfaces for powder coating by cleaning, sanding, Chipping, Grinding or Tumbling to ensure proper adhesion.
- Clean and maintain equipment as directed
- Provide assistance to shop supervisor and co-workers.
- Utilize measuring instruments including tape measures.
Shop Assistant Requirements and Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Aptitude for mechanics
- Familiarity with hand tools
- Exceptional hand-eye coordination
- Physically capable of standing for extended periods of time and lifting up to 70 pounds
- Basic welding knowledge, including MIG (experience with light welding preferred).
- Previous experience in a similar role is preferred but not required.
Working Conditions:
- The position may involve working in a noisy, busy, and sometimes dusty environment.
- Safety gear such as steel toe shoes, gloves, goggles, helmets, and protective clothing must be worn at all times.
- The work may require standing for extended periods and lifting objects up to 50 pounds.
- Exposure to powder coating chemicals and fumes, with proper ventilation and safety protocols in place.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.00 - $18.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
- Day shift
- Monday to Friday
Supplemental Pay:
- Overtime pay
