Project Engineer – Power Electronics and Onboard Systems (Rolling Stock)

Position Summary
We are looking for a qualified Project Engineer, reporting to the General Manager – Projects. The Project Engineer will support the development and implementation of power electronics for rail and transit systems. This role will serve as the critical link between our US-based customers and our engineering and testing team in Spain, ensuring seamless communication, project execution, and customer satisfaction. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in power electronics, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively across international teams.
Responsibilities
Customer Liaison
- Act as the primary point of contact for US-based rail and transit customers during the execution of design and delivery as per the contract.
- Understand customer requirements and ensure they are communicated effectively to the Spain-based development team during design.
- Receive, process and address technical customer concerns in close collaboration with the local US-based team, before escalating to Spain.
- Coordinate and facilitate meetings, presentations, and reviews between customers and the development team.
Project Management
- Oversee project timelines, milestones, and technical deliverables to ensure the technical share of projects is completed and delivered on time.
- Track and report project progress, identifying and mitigating risks to deliverables as they arise.
- Ensure alignment between customer expectations and technical project scope.
- Know and manage contractual technical documentation and their maintenance.
Technical Support
- Provide technical support and expertise to customers, assisting with the integration and application of our delivered systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues that arise during the development, testing, and deployment phases.
- Work closely with the engineering team in Spain to develop solutions that meet customer specifications and industry standards.
- Work with our local field service team to support and triage upcoming technical issues.
- Write FARs, create corrective action plans and act in the Quality Assurance role in close collaboration with the Quality Team.
Documentation and Compliance
- Prepare and maintain detailed technical project documentation, including specifications, test plans, and reports.
- Ensure all projects comply with relevant safety and regulatory standards, statutory as well as customer defined.
- Review and contribute technical documentation created in Spain for consistency and requirements compliance.
Collaboration
- Foster a collaborative working environment between the US-based production team and the Spain-based engineering teams.
- Travel as necessary to customer sites and the Spain office to support project activities.
Required Skills / Knowledge
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, software engineering, systems engineering, or a related field.
- Advanced engineering degree or certifications beneficial.
Experience
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in power electronics and communication systems, ideally within the rail and transit industry.
- Proven experience working in projects and acting as a liaison between customers and engineering teams.
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulatory requirements for rail and transit systems.
Skills
- Strong technical knowledge of power electronics and onboard systems, and their applications in rail and transit systems.
- Excellent project skills, with the ability to manage multiple deliverables simultaneously.
- Superior communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with customers and international teams.
- Proficiency in relevant software tools (e.g., project management software, word processing software, technical diagnostic tools).
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required.
- Spanish proficiency beneficial.
