The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) is the sixth largest transportation system in the United States, with a vast network of fixed route services including bus, subway/elevated, trackless trolley, light rail, and commuter rail serving a 2,200 square mile service region.
We are seeking candidates for the position of Painter - First Class (1131) in both City Transit and Reginal Rail.
OVERALL DESCRIPTION
As an experienced painter, drives truck to assigned location, prepares surfaces and assembles required scaffolding, mixes paint, performs acetylene cutting and glazing, and brushes and sprays paint on all structures.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILTIES
- Prepares surfaces, including wood plasterboard and concrete walls and floors for painting by use of spackling and taping.
- Performs brush and spray gun painting on structures.
- Mixes, matches and tints paint.
- Decides necessity for and erects, scaffolding, including rigging work in accordance with existing standards.
- Operates truck to various locations.
- Performs acetylene cutting and glazing as required.
- Complies with all Authority and departmental safety and security policies and procedures as well as all applicable job safety responsibilities. Reports any safety concerns, compromises or hazards affecting operations, the public, self and/or other employees. Responsible for personal safety and is encouraged to promote the safety of others.
ADDITIONAL SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILTIES
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Must be a high school graduate or equivalent required.
- Must satisfactorily complete written qualifications and performance tests as required Basic mathematics, blueprint reading, hand tools carpentry.
- Must have three (3) years full time relevant work experience that includes residential, commercial and industrial painting with proficiency in the use of brush and roller, working with epoxies, stains, oil-based and waterborne materials on all types of surfaces. Proficiency in preparation of all types of surfaces for painting and finishing as well as mixing and applying all kinds of finishes. Experience in the use, maintenance and repair of airless spray equipment also required.
- Successful completion of a trade school curriculum in relevant area may be substituted for one year of work experience (documentation will be required).
- Must be skilled in the safe use of painter tools such as but not limited to brushes, sprayers, torches, needle guns, scaffolds and ladders up to 32 feet ( will be required to work at height of 32 feet or higher).
- Must be able to decide necessity for, and erect, work platforms using ladders, planking or scaffolding.
- Must have ability to work from drawing. Must be a self starter and be able to problem solve on the job site without available materials. Must maintain a clean and safe work area.
- Must have ability to work from drawings and written instruction.
- Must possess valid PA driver's license or equivalent. CDL may be required at a later date.
- Must be willing to be Q.P.E. training (Qualified Protection Employee) new designation for form w or flagging certified.
