What are the responsibilities and job description for the Transit Teller I position at SEPTA?
The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) is the sixth largest transportation system in the United States, with a vast network of fixed route services including bus, subway/elevated, trackless trolley, light rail, and commuter rail serving a 2,200 square mile service region.
We are seeking candidates for the position of Transit Teller I (7309) in the Financial Operations.
SEPTA currently requires all new employees to be fully vaccinated and provide proof of vaccination at their pre-employment medical appointment.
OVERALL DESCRIPTION
Under the general supervision of Sales Supervisors and/or Senior Transit Teller, sells transportation fare media to the general public at high volume sales offices. Provides specific information concerning the multiple financial aspects of the SEPTA Key Card and transit information to patrons making purchases.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Using specific credentials, logs into Administrative Sales Device (ASD) to open their sales shift. Inspects ASD and attachments for signs of tampering and ensures system if functioning properly. Advises Revenue Control Center of any equipment failure and provides specific error messages to aid in diagnostics.
- Sells and/or reloads SEPTA Key Card. Processes transactions accepting currency, credit cards, debit cards, coupons, business checks, transit benefit checks, certified and cashier checks. Makes change as necessary.
- Accepts customer intake in cases of lost or stolen SEPTA Key Cards. Conducts replacement card function to re-associate a new Key card to the customer’s account. Contacts SEPTA Key Call Center to resolve certain customer issues directly with customer on customer’s behalf.
- Counts unsold Key Cards and advises supervisor when additional inventory is needed.
- Exercises all aspects of Payment Card Industry (PCI) standards related to security of customer personal information and bank cards.
- Explains use of Key Cards and answers transit related questions. Advises customers of purchase options including Auto-Load and the methods of setting up such arrangement.
- Conducts an “End of Shift” (EOS) report to settle ASD for the day including transaction, sales, and cash receipt reports and submits same to Supervisor for validation.
- Secures all funds and SEPTA Key Cards at the completion of sales shift in safe compartment and places a detection seal on compartment drawer.
ADDITIONAL SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- High School or GED equivalent
- One year experience in cashiering
- Knowledge of SEPTA Key Card System
- Knowledge of PCI Standards
- Knowledge of revenue policies and procedures
EQUIPMENT USED:
- ASD Computer System, calculator, printers, pin-pads, and card readers.
PHYSICAL:
- Sitting 90%; Standing and moving about 10%
- No unusual physical exertion required
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Cashier office environment with surveillance cameras and PCI standards employed.
