1. General Character of Duties and Supervisory Control:
The Teacher will deliver a well planned, developmentally appropriate curriculum for assigned children. Team work and positive attitudes toward others, especially parents is essential, complying with all child care / Head Start regulations. Child safety, to include count / location of children, is essential.

2. Example of Specific Duties:
Assesses children's developmental level and plans program to meet their individual needs, organizes the classroom to meet the needs of the children and provides the best environment for the curriculum; writes and implements lesson plans using an internet-based system; involves parents in the education of their child and encourages them to become involved in all aspects of the program; supervises Teacher Assistant, Volunteers, and other assigned workers and provides training and home visits for parents. Demonstrates and uses skills to help train and mentor other staff; serves as a curriculum resource and approves lesson plans and individualization activities as assigned. Completes data management forms and secure in-kind donations. Assists in selection of curriculum materials and in making hiring decisions and staffing recommendations at the program level. Design and assist in preservice training. Helps analyze training needs and suggests approaches.

3. Minimum Qualifications
In addition to the skills required for the Teacher I and II, the Teacher III should have demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities as follows: knowledgeable about call aspects of early childhood and the needs of children with the ability to communicate with children and train adults. A four year or masters degree in early childhood, along with a recommendation for promotion from the Teacher II level is required, for current employees. Computer and supervision skills are needed. Must be fluent in the language(s) used by the families served.

4. Desired Qualifications:
Extensive experience working with young children in a group setting. Experience managing a child care center, mentoring, and conducting workshops for parents/other teachers is desirable. Extensive ability in data management and training adults in both small and large group settings is a plus, along with CDL / Spanish or dual language learner training

5. Other Significant Facts:
A pre-employment drug screen is required by the Agency. Ability to secure a commercial drivers license may be required in some centers, and personal transportation, including adequate auto liability coverage and proof of a satisfactory driving record is required. Occasional overnight travel is required for training events, and on-going training is required. The position is generally scheduled for 200 days per year, which includes holidays and earned leave time. Staff hired after January 15, 2001, must pass state DHS fingerprinting process prior to hire. Staff hired before January 15, 2001, must have evidence of a social security number based criminal background check on file.

6. Select teachers may be designated as the School Readiness Coach and will participate in local and agency advisory meetings and support training and use of school readiness activities.

7. Physical Requirements:
Must have a post job offer physical prior to working with children and a drug test and evidence of a negative T.B. screening. Physical demands of this position include lifting (over 50 pounds in emergency situations), stooping, sitting in child size furniture, ability to hear conversations, vision adequate to supervise three and four year olds is needed. No item considered an essential function is designed to exclude a person with a disability.
