What You Will Do:
• Schedules drivers, maintains vehicles and operates motor vehicles to transport residents and staff according to established schedules
• Transports residents on various trips, tours, medical visits and errands according to facility procedures. May work closely with nursing personnel as instructed.
• Develops schedules daily for driving staff and vehicle usage in coordination with Director of Wellness and Enrichment, Program Coordinator, and Medical personnel.
• Assures driving assignments are fulfilled through frequent contact with drivers and acts as relief driver when unable to obtain drivers.
• Assists passengers in entering and leaving the vehicle at all times. Will arrange for safety and comfort of passengers.
• Delivers packages, materials and performs a variety of pick-up and delivery tasks and miscellaneous errands.
• Performs regular minor maintenance and service on facility vehicles such as checking to ensure that vehicles are in working order, checking and refilling fuel, oil, and water, and cleaning the vehicle inside and out.
• Reports major maintenance repairs and accidents to supervisor and arranges for repairs as needed and advised.
• Maintains simple records related to vehicle operation and schedules.
• Maintains records for all facility vehicles including adherence to CHP and Department of Transportation codes and regulations, keeping all vehicles in safe working condition, insures all scheduled and necessary services are performed and recorded.
• Provides and/or arranges for appropriate training of drivers, including acquisition of written confirmation of all mandatory programs, procedures and regulations provided by Department of Transportation and Sequoia Living and verification of continued credentials.
• Actively participates in the hiring of drivers and, in conjunction with the Director of
Wellness and Enrichment, provides supervision, periodic review, and discipline as necessary.
• May assist Director of Wellness and Enrichment with special projects and tasks.
• Serves as relief receptionist as needed.
• Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Basic reading, writing and numerical ability. Tact and courtesy in dealing with the elderly under sometimes trying conditions. Patience and understanding of the aged, interpersonal skills to deal with residents and staff in a positive manner. Able to handle busy phone lines.
Physical skills and ability to perform work that requires continual standing, walking, stooping, bending and lifting up to 50 pounds.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Current Class B driver's license required. Compliance with U.S. Department of Transportation requirements, including Compulsory Drug and Alcohol Testing. Minimum two years’ work experience. Highly reliable driving ability and record.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
Acts as a lead to assign work to staff of one to five employees. Responsible for interviewing applicants training, motivating and giving input into performance appraisals and corrective action in conjunction with the Director of Wellness and Enrichment.
