Position Description

Looking for a high energy and fast-paced environment where you can make a difference every day?  Discover this great opportunity to join our team as a junior on-site help desk specialist supporting the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).  Available shifts are M-F (with occasional weekend shift), 3:00pm - 11:30pm and 11:00pm - 7:30am.

 

As a Help Desk Support Specialist, you will:

  • Work in an operations center side by side with other personnel throughout the shift
  • Respond to telephone calls, email and personnel requests for technical support
  • Document, track, and monitor the problem to ensure a timely resolution
  • Administer Microsoft Windows Server 2012 and 2008r2 operating systems
  • Perform service and server restarts, patching and troubleshooting in the Microsoft Server domain
  • Document and publish procedures to improve operational effectiveness

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • Associates degree or equivalent experience in lieu of degree
  • At least two years of operations support experience
  • At least one year of experience with a federal agency or federal contractor
  • At least two years of information technology experience
  • Experience as a user of SCOM or another data center monitoring tool
  • Experience working with and patching Microsoft Windows Server 2012 and 2008r2
  • Experience with a network monitoring tool such as SCOM or PRTG is a must.  Experience with the following is a plus: Hyper-V, VMware, WatchGuard Firebox, What's up Glod, SolarWinds, Azure.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Linux (Rhel 6/7, Centos, Suse, Ubunto) experience a plus
