Greenhouse Lead

Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Shift Leader to oversee daily operations in our Greenhouses. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills and a passion for gardening, farming, and lawn care. Extensive background or degree in Horticulture (students working towards a similar degree will be considered). This role requires hands-on involvement in various tasks, including plant identification, irrigation, plant care, pest control, climate control, experience leading/delegation tasks to other employees, and general greenhouse operations. You will be expected to communicate with management about any potential issues/concerns and end of day reports as well as communicated with customers and assist them in making selections. The Shift Leader will ensure that all team members are performing their duties effectively while maintaining a safe and productive work environment. This is a physically demanding job that includes tasks such as lifting heavy plants, bending, and working in a standing position for extended periods of time.

Position may require overtime or occasional weekend day during busier season.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate daily activities of the team to ensure efficient workflow and plant care
• Provide training and support to team members to identify plant needs such how to water and handle plants
• Oversee the identification of plants and ensure proper care techniques are applied as well as be vigilant in accessing pests/diseases and immediately reporting and addressing with management
• Manage irrigation systems to maintain optimal growing conditions for plants.
• Assist with heavy lifting and physical tasks related to planting and other greenhouse tasks
• Implement safety protocols to promote a safe working environment for all staff.
• Help educate customers on proper plant care and assist with education of the plants on the purchases
• Efficiently manage time and be able to access order and urgency of tasks to ensure everything is completed in timely manner at the end of the day

Experience

• Previous experience in a leadership role and delegating tasks
• Strong knowledge of plant identification and growing techniques in greenhouse setting is essential.
• Mechanical knowledge to handle equipment maintenance is a plus.
• Ability to perform outdoor work in various weather conditions.
• Experience with heavy lifting and physical labor is required.
• Basic math skills for inventory tracking and resource management are necessary.
• High school diploma necessary, Horticulture degree preferred. We welcome students studying towards a plant related degree

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.50 - $22.50 per hour

Expected hours: 35 – 42 per week
