The Primary purpose of your job is to perform laundering / housekeeping duties in an efficient manner and in accordance with the mission and vison of Continuum Long-term care and comply with established policies, procedures and regulation.
Laundry Functions
1. Handle and sort soiled linen and personal clothing.
2. Load and operate washers and dryers in accordance with specific operating instructions.
3. Follow specialized sanitation procedures to avoid contamination of clean linen.
4. Fold and / or hang clean linen and personal clothing in accordance with the Supervisor’s instructions.
5. Transport and deliver clean linen and personal clothing to floors and resident’s rooms
6. Clean and sanitize work area daily including machines, work tables and sorting area.
7. Maintain laundry machines and carts in a aseptic condition.
Experience
Previous experience in institutional laundering is preferred, but on-site training is provided.
Requirements
- Must be able to read, write and speak in English.
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
- Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, resident, family members, visitors, government agencies / personnel and the general public.
- Must be able to follow oral and written instructions.
- Develop and maintain a good working rapport with intra-department personnel, as well as other departments within the facility to assure that environmental services can be properly maintained to meet the needs of the residents.
- Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the department.
- Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disables, elderly, emotionally upset residents in the facility.
- Report all hazardous conditions / equipment to the Supervisor immediately.
- Report all accidents / incidents as established by department policies.
- Wear protective clothing and / or equipment when handling infectious waste and / or blood / body fluids.
- Maintain the confidentiality of all resident’s care information.
- Attend and participate in in-services, workshops, seminars, etc. as directed.
