Summary

As a Data Center Technician, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of data center hardware, including servers, networks, and storage systems. The role involves managing inventory, performing daily inspections, and maintaining data center documentation. This position requires strong technical skills, excellent problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to work in a team-oriented environment. In this role, you will also support logistics operations, monitor inventory across multiple locations, and occasionally travel to other data centers to ensure operational efficiency.


Core Responsibilities:

  • Install switches and perform rack and stack operations for data center hardware.
  • Process customer orders by following defined workflows and instructions.
  • Troubleshoot servers and network issues, collaborating with cross-functional teams as needed.
  • Perform daily inspections on data center equipment, resolving minor issues and escalating critical incidents.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory levels (servers, parts, etc.) across all data centers, alerting management of shortages and obtaining procurement approvals.
  • Facilitate logistics operations, including creating and expediting shipments via FedEx and notifying consignees (primarily other data centers) of hardware arrival.
  • Conduct and support Operations and Facilities Audits, including assessments of power, inventory, bandwidth, remote hands, software licenses, reclaim queues, and other operational elements.


Other Duties:

  • Travel to other data centers on a case-by-case basis to support operational needs.
  • Follow best practices for cabling, maintenance, and safety within the data center.
  • Maintain and update technical documentation, including procedures, inventory lists, and audit records.
  • Provision and decommission internal and customer equipment as required.
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams and customers in line with company policies.


Qualifications:

Technical Expertise:

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years in the IT industry, with expertise in server hosting and data center operations.
  • Knowledge:
    • Linux distributions and Windows Server.
    • Server hardware, particularly SuperMicro and AMD.
    • Networking skills, including troubleshooting copper and fiber cabling.
  • Preferred Tools: Familiarity with cPanel, Plesk, Ubersmith, and courier portals (e.g., FedEx) for shipping and logistics.


Soft Skills:

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Strong organizational skills for managing inventory and coordinating logistics.


Additional Requirements:

  • Flexibility to travel to other data centers as needed.
  • Adherence to 24/7/365 operational standards and commitment to health and safety regulations.
