Service Credit Union is seeking a Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) who will be responsible for guiding borrowers through the mortgage application process, from initial consultation through closing. The Day to Day:
- Meet with potential borrowers to discuss their financial needs and review their mortgage options.
- Analyze clients' financial situations, including income, credit, and debt, to recommend appropriate loan products.
- Provide detailed explanations of various loan programs, interest rates, and terms to help clients make informed decisions.
- Assist borrowers in completing mortgage loan applications accurately.
- Gather and review required documentation such as income statements, credit reports, tax returns, and asset information.
- Submit complete mortgage applications to processing, ensuring all necessary documentation is included.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with real estate agents, brokers, attorneys, and other referral sources.
- Provide excellent service to borrowers throughout the loan process, keeping them informed and answering questions.
- Maintain a network of prospective clients through outreach and marketing efforts.
- Stay informed of industry regulations, including federal, state, and local mortgage lending laws (e.g., TILA, RESPA).
- Ensure all loan files meet regulatory and compliance standards.
- Work with processing and underwriting departments to resolve any issues during the loan approval process.
- Keep up-to-date with market trends, interest rates, and changes in mortgage products.
- Provide advice and insights to clients about the mortgage market and forecasted trends.
- Work closely with processors, underwriters, and closing departments to ensure smooth and timely loan approvals.
- Coordinate loan closings, ensuring all paperwork is complete and accurate.
Experience and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, or a related field (preferred, not required).
- NMLS (National Mortgage Licensing System) certification required.
- 2-3 years of experience as a Mortgage Loan Officer, Loan Originator, or similar role.
- Proven track record of success in sales, customer service, or real estate-related fields.
- Strong knowledge of mortgage products, industry trends, and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficiency in using loan origination software and CRM tools.
- Ability to analyze financial documents and assess creditworthiness.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
