PURPOSE: The BOLD Center‘s Coaching Program offers support to SEIU Officers and SEIU staff leaders to increase their individual leadership development and enhance their capacity to lead and manage their Local and/or SEIU International’s priorities, programs and campaigns in partnership with SEIU members and staff. Coaching provided through the BOLD Center can also be a valuable resource to leaders in helping them navigate and manage the stress of demanding jobs and challenging work environments as they try to balance competing work and personal priorities.
The BOLD Center Coaching Manager will oversee all aspects of the Coaching Program. The Coaching Manager is responsible for developing and leading a team of coaches while implementing effective coaching strategies to drive individual and organizational change. This role combines people management, strategic planning, and hands-on coaching expertise.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: The Coaching Manager is responsible for recruiting, onboarding, supporting and monitoring of coaches performing coaching through the BOLD Center. More specifically, the Coaching Manager will:
- Lead and develop a team of coaches who will provide support to SEIU leaders to foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development through regular one-on-one coaching sessions, team sessions as indicated, and coaching interventions as needed;
- Design and implement coaching programs and frameworks that align with the organizational goals and strategic direction of SEIU;
- Oversee the coach matching process, including: conducting intake calls with perspective SEIU coachees, identifying potential coaches for consideration, communicating with coachees and potential coaches throughout the matching process, maintaining up-to-date information in the BOLD Center’s CRM (online project management platform), and the generation of Coaching MOU’s, with support from Operations;
- Create, update, and share relevant materials about the Coaching Program with BOLD Center consultants, SEIU International and Local leaders
- Establish and maintain coaching quality standards and best practices by staying current with industry trends and coaching innovations;
- Oversee the implementation of the BOLD Center 360 Feedback and Assessment Process, including:
- Collaborate with the BOLD Center Operations Team to implement the 360 Process for eligible SEIU leaders
- Coordinate with BOLD Center coaches to provide training and support around the 360-process including eligibility to participate in a 360 (or self-assessment) and expectations/processes for debriefing 360 feedback with SEIU leaders;
- Create learning opportunities for BOLD Center coaches to explore and share (without attribution to specific coachees) patterns of leadership and organizational behaviors that can promote effective support and coaching strategies and/or other program development opportunities for the BOLD Center;
- Manage coaching program budgets and resources;
- Track and report on coaching program metrics and outcomes; and
- Other duties as assigned and as directed by the BOLD Center Director.

DIRECTION AND DECISION MAKING: The BOLD Center Coaching Manager reports to the Director of the BOLD Center, and works closely with the BOLD Center Operations Team to implement the Coaching Program.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: The Coaching Manager must have a BA or BS from an accredited higher education institution. In addition, the Coaching Manager must have one and/or the other of the following education and training experiences, and meet the additional qualifications listed below:
- Education and Training experiences, in addition to a BA or BS (one or more):
- The successful completion of a certified coaching program (e.g. ICF, EMCC)
- A graduate degree in a related field, i.e. counseling or social work
- Ten (10) or more years of coaching, including experience in working in the non-profit sector
- Previous experience within the labor movement, advocacy organizations or non-profits
- The Coaching Manager must have/be:
- Strong organizational skills
- Detail oriented
- Proactive and responsive in meeting the coaching requests and other related inquiries
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to successfully interact with perspective coachees, BOLD Center Coaches, BOLD Center Staff and International and Local SEIU leaders
- Knowledge of adult learning principles and personal development methodologies
- Familiarity with the overall mission and goals of SEIU and its Locals to better understand the kinds of support SEIU leaders may be seeking through coaching, with a deep commitment to SEIU’s goal of being an Anti-Racist Organization.
- Familiarity with and/or a plan to become familiar with the interests, strengths, and skills of individual BOLD Center coaches to facilitate effective coach matches.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is primarily performed in an office setting but may occasionally occur in other environments as needed to fulfill job responsibilities. This role requires some travel, including overnight stays, and may involve occasional evening or weekend hours. The ability to connect with staff and consultants across different time zones is also necessary.
