What are the responsibilities and job description for the Workshop Manager position at Service Transport Inc?
The primary role of the STI Shop Manager is to oversee the daily functioning of company’s PM and repair operations to ensure an efficient, safe workplace that produces high-quality output and enables dependable performance of the company’s logistics fleet. Oversee parts inventories and mechanic work order systems
The STI Shop Manager reports to and interacts directly with the General Manger (GM).
Shop Manager Responsibilities include the following and additional tasks / activities as may be assigned by and mutually agreed with the GM;
- Manage Repairs & Preventative Maintenance Schedule – establish and maintain schedules and manage workshop activities and resources to achieve goals / priorities as agreed with the GM (and senior STI management as appropriate).
- Manage Office and Mechanic Team to accomplish daily operational needs with the goal of “cost-effectively” optimizing equipment run-time and minimizing equipment breakdowns and rework.
- Assign Work Schedules (hourly, daily, weekly and weekend) to ensure adequate service support 24/7 for the STI fleet.
- Maintain After-Hours Phone Schedule to support breakdown resolution and service needs that occur outside normal workshop hours.
- Oversee Shop Housekeeping & Organization for an orderly, safe and productive environment that enables a high-quality, efficient workspace.
- Manage Vendors & Suppliers to ensure responsive, timely and cost-effective support for shop personnel, repairs and maintenance operations.
- Manage Inventory - maintain critical supplies and parts for smooth daily functioning of shop and to minimize wait / turnaround time for repairs, scheduled PMs and service work. Minimize unneeded inventory accumulation.
- Parts Receiving and Logistics - coordinate vendor deliveries and pick-ups as appropriate to coordinate workshop activity and priorities.
- Enforce Company Policies and Procedures as regards shop operations.
- Training & Development of Workshop Team – provide leadershipfor continuous improvement and development of personnel. Oversee mechanics and monitor completed work for thoroughness and quality.
- Maintain Tools, Equipment and Supplies to support an efficient and safe workplace environment (and to prevent loss, shrinkage and wastage of company resources).
- Ensure Work Orders, Part Requests, Repair Sheets, Daily Work Recaps, Breakdown Logs and related reports and forms are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
- Coordinate Workshop Interaction with Dispatch, Management and all STI Parties as required to support STI objective of service excellence and dependability to customers.
- Manage Human Resources – provide managerial leadership to motivate STI’s team and professionally interact with shop personnel to support morale… and enable a positive work environment that keeps the STI workshop team focused on being the “best of the best”.
