Job Description
Hancock Grammar School is seeking a dedicated and skilled special education teacher to join our middle level team.
The ideal candidate will be a team player, flexible, and embrace the unique challenges of working with middle school students!
Key Responsibilities
- Create and maintain Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) aligned with state and federal laws (e.g., IDEA) to meet each student's unique needs and goals.
- Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to diverse learning styles and abilities, adapting general education curriculum as needed.
- Offer direct instruction in reading, math, writing, social studies, and other areas through small group, individual, push-in, or pull-out services.
- Assess student progress through formative and summative assessments, modifying teaching strategies and interventions to ensure growth.
- Work closely with general education teachers, specialists, administrators, and parents/guardians to plan accommodations, share progress, and address student needs holistically.
- Create inclusive, supportive classrooms that encourage self-esteem, independence, and social-emotional development, while implementing positive behavior and de-escalation strategies.
- Keep accurate records of student progress, services, and accommodations while staying current with best practices, legal requirements, and professional development.
- Professional endorsement to teach students with disabilities (282). Conditional certificates will be considered.
- Experience teaching middle school special education is preferred.
