Title: Facilities Technician

Position: Full Time, Hourly
Anticipated Pay Range: $21.00-$25.50/hour
Summary:
The facilities Technician supports the school's mission by maintaining a clean, orderly, and well-functioning campus. This role involves skilled cleaning, general labor, and semi-skilled building maintenance. The technician assists maintenance specialists with routine tasks across various construction and mechanical systems trades.
Responsibilities include ensuring the campus meets APPA (Association of Physical Plant Administrators) cleaning standards, performing custodial and grounds maintenance, and supporting the upkeep of classrooms, offi ces, and other school facilities. The technician helps maintain a safe environment for students, staff, and visitors by conducting preventive maintenance and assisting in skilled trade work to address operational and safety concerns.
This position requires the ability to work independently while coordinating tasks around school schedules and documenting work in the ticketing system. The Facilities Technician must collaborate effectively with staff, students, and facility users. Advancement opportunities, including Lead Technician or Plant Manager roles, may be available based on position openings and qualifi cations.
Duties and Responsibilities
Cleaning & Setup Operate cleaning machines and fl oor buffers to maintain clean and safe facilities. Keep walkways and grounds free of debris, pick up litter, and empty outdoor trash bins as needed. Assist with major cleaning projects such as carpet cleaning, fl oor stripping, and refi nishing. Rearrange, move, and set up furniture and equipment as per instructions, including setups for events in the theater and gymnasium. Monitor and restock janitorial supplies in restrooms and other facility areas. Safety & Security Open and secure school buildings as needed, ensuring all entry and exit points are locked, windows are secured, and A/C and lights are turned off. - Inspect and record the condition of emergency eyewash stations, fi re extinguishers, fi rst aid kits, and emergency telephones. Stay up to date on safety protocols and proper use of cleaning chemicals and materials. Follow industry standards for safely operating machinery and tools. Maintenance Perform repairs and maintenance on sidewalks, roadways, irrigation systems, athletic equipment, and classroom fi xtures. Assist with planting and maintaining trees, turf, and fl owers. Perform painting tasks, including preparing surfaces, matching paint colors, and using spray equipment or brushes. Repair and refi nish furniture, install wall coverings and glaze windows. Assist with carpentry, plumbing, and other trade tasks as needed. Operate and maintain equipment such as light tractors, forklifts, and skip loaders. Keep tools and equipment in safe and functional condition. Assist in the installation and maintenance of roofs, baseboards, furniture, cabinets, shelving, and bulletin boards. Repair and maintain fl ooring, including tile, linoleum, and carpet. Maintain various operational systems by cleaning, repairing, and replacing parts and fi xtures. Support mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance on air-conditioning and heating systems, including fi lter changes and lubrication. Coordinate with third-party trade vendors for specifi c maintenance and repair projects. Inspect equipment regularly to ensure proper function and required servicing. Communicate maintenance needs by submitting work order requests to the appropriate personnel. Assist other trades as needed to support facility upkeep. Design and complete specifi c projects to meet maintenance and facility needs. Conduct regular inspections of facilities to identify necessary repairs and support preventive maintenance programs. Install and repair facility components such as glass, fl oors, electrical appliances, and partitions. Maintain documentation for tracking maintenance activities and communicating issues. Request equipment and supplies to ensure necessary inventory is available. Respond to emergencies promptly to address safety concerns. Transport tools, equipment, and supplies to job sites as needed. Support the maintenance and upkeep of school-owned vehicles, including vans, trucks, and carts. Skilled in operating equipment related to semi-skilled trades, including power and hand tools. Knowledge of safety procedures and proper handling of hazardous materials. Physical Demands The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions requires the following physical demands: signifi cant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent climbing and balancing; signifi cant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and signifi cant fi ne fi nger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 5% sitting, 50% walking and 45% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes, some hazardous conditions, and in varying atmospheric conditions. Qualifi cations
The successful candidate should have the following skills, experiences and qualities:
- Required to be physically fi t and being able to lift and carry weight of up to 50lbs.*
- A high school diploma with a proven ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.*
- Must have a valid and current forklift operator certifi cation*
- Ability to prioritize work orders to ensure timely completion of tasks with the least amount of negative impact on other departments.*
- Ability to perform basic math calculations*
- Ability to demonstrate tact and diplomacy when interacting with diverse constituents.*
- Knowledge of safe driving practices as defi ned by the California DMV*
- Ability to adhere to safe working practices as defi ned by industry and regulatory standards.*

- Minimum of 2 years of experience in the general maintenance of buildings, grounds, or equipment required. Valid California driver’s license, clear, unrestricted DMV record; a DMV report will be required before and periodically during employment. Alternate/extended shifts are periodically required for event support. This is a full-time, non-exempt position with full Medical, Dental, Vision, and Retirement benefi ts offered. Vacation benefi ts include fi fteen paid holidays plus the accrual of PTO after the probationary period ends.
