What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electrical Engineer position at Sesame?
About Sesame
Sesame believes in a future where computers are lifelike - with the ability to see, hear, and collaborate with us in ways that feel natural and human. With this vision, we're designing a new kind of computer, focused on making voice companions part of our daily lives. Our team brings together founders from Oculus and Ubiquity6, alongside proven leaders from Meta, Google, and Apple, with deep expertise spanning hardware and software. Join us in shaping a future where computers truly come alive.
About the Role
Our tightly integrated electronics pack a broad range of functions into a small package. We are seeking an Electrical Engineer with experience in wearable products, or similar areas in consumer electronics, who can own and drive system design through to production. They will follow the system or complete subsystems through concept, architecture, prototyping, evaluation, and refinement stages. This requires low-level, hands-on EE skills with the breadth to cover any subsystems, including high-level direction, partner management, and Software / Firmware collaboration.
Deep knowledge and experience in designing and shipping compact, efficient battery-powered systems with RF connectivity and challenging industrial design constraints is ideal. Experience with IoT devices, custom silicon, or ML accelerators is a plus.
Responsibilities :
Own & drive the development of the electrical architecture, design, prototyping, and development of one or more hardware systems (MCU / SOC / FPGA, battery, sensing, RF, Audio).
Contribute to hardware process and tool flow definition, hardware vendor engagement, and management.
Serve as a domain expert on one or more areas of electrical design, such as audio, DSP, battery, RF, or sensing.
Define hardware roadmaps, architectures, trade-offs, specifications, development plans, and evaluation methods for wearable electronics.
Hands-on PCBA design and bring-up : component selection, schematic, layout, assembly, bring-up, test / debug, and integration into larger systems.
Collaborate with mechanical, firmware, software, UX, and machine learning partners to define, evaluate, and optimize hardware systems.
Identify, evaluate, engage, and drive partners and vendors to accelerate hardware development.
Required Qualifications :
Experience working independently in high-ambiguity environments.
10 years of experience owning and delivering complex EE designs.
5 years of experience leading & delivering complex projects encompassing computing, electrical systems, sensors, power, mechanical, and firmware.
Experience shipping and supporting a complex product including sensors, compute, HMI, and battery.
Strong fundamental EE skills across analog & digital domains, PCB design, and simulation tools.
Familiar with firmware development and comfortable with independent basic bring-up and debug code.
Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
Passion for learning, and experimentation evidenced by side projects or learning endeavors.
BS or MS in EE or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications :
Deep experience with one of the following areas : battery, RF, capacitive touch, audio, or image sensors.
Experience developing and shipping a wearable product, including machine perception or machine learning-powered features, with challenging power and form factor constraints.
Experience selecting and guiding partners to augment development speed / bandwidth.
Familiarity with machine learning algorithms, data collection, and hardware acceleration.
Experience in a startup or research organization.
Benefits : 401k matching
100% employer-paid health, vision, and dental benefits
