Senior Business Analyst

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Business Analyst with a strong data focus to join our team in Washington, DC. In this role, you will play a crucial part in bridging the gap between business needs and IT solutions by analyzing business requirements, translating them into technical specifications, and ensuring successful data-driven projects.

Key Responsibilities:

• Data Analysis & Requirements Gathering: Analyze business requirements and translate them into detailed functional specifications and user stories.
• Conduct data analysis, including data profiling, data quality assessment, and data lineage analysis.
• Gather and document business rules, data definitions, and data usage scenarios.
• Elicit and document user requirements through various methods, including interviews, workshops, and surveys.
• Data Modeling & Design: Collaborate with data architects and engineers in the design and development of data models, data warehouses, and data marts.
• Understand and communicate data flow, data transformations, and data integration processes.
• Project Management & Execution: Manage and execute data-related projects, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to project timelines and budgets.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including IT, business users, and project stakeholders.
• Facilitate User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and ensure timely resolution of issues.
• Data Governance & Quality: Advocate for data quality best practices and contribute to data governance initiatives.
• Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and completeness throughout the data lifecycle.
• Reporting & Analytics: Collaborate with data analysts and data scientists to develop and deliver insightful reports and dashboards.
• Support the development and implementation of data-driven decision-making processes.

Qualifications:

• Education: Master's degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
• OR Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with 12 years of relevant experience.
• Experience: Minimum 8 years of experience as a Business Analyst with a strong focus on data.
• Proven experience working on large-scale data and reporting applications.
• Strong understanding of Operational Data Stores (ODS), Data Warehouses (DW), and Data Marts.
• Experience with data implementation efforts, including relational database concepts, ETL fundamentals, transaction processing, and testing protocols.
• Data Management Expertise: Demonstrated understanding of data management concepts, including data quality, data lineage, data lifecycle, master/reference data management, and metadata management.
• Proven ability to understand the meaning of data and work cohesively with the business to leverage it for advanced insights.
• Essential: Domain knowledge of accounting and financial data sets.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in SQL and the ability to read data models, infer data flows, and write complex queries.
• Hands-on experience with reporting tools (Power BI, SAP BO, Tableau).
• Familiarity with using agile tools such as Azure DevOps.
• Communication & Collaboration: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal and presentation skills with the ability to effectively communicate with both business and technical audiences.
• Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with cloud-based data platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Knowledge of data mining and machine learning techniques.
• Experience with data visualization tools.
• Relevant industry certifications (CBAP, PMI-PBA).
